A Call to Pittsburgh Mefites June 17, 2010 2:06 PM   Subscribe

Pittsburgh, it's time for another meetup!

It's summer. It's pretty. We should do something fun outdoors together like watch a free movie on Flagstaff Hill, or canoe in the pouring rain on the Mon, or contemplate the deer carcases at Settler's Cabin Park.

Shall we leave the warm glow of our computer monitors and go outside?

Let's pick a date and a place! Would Saturday, the 26th work?

Alas, I don't live in Pit Dweller's Town and thus can't join your lovely meetup, but I just wanted to stop in and complement you on the use of the "pierogi" tag.

We're always up for a meetup but the 26th is already double booked for us. Other than that day, we're open.

There's a free concert at Schenley Plaza on the 25th that we'll probably go to.

Ha! And the "n'at" tag. *grew up in Steubenville, listened to WDVE*

26th isn't great for me, either. I'll be tied up at the Autism Walk all morning/early afternoon and then probably I'll have had quite enough of the great outdoors. (But hey, if anyone's going to the Autism Walk, drop me a line and I'll tell you what resource booth to find me at to come say hello.)

I might be in otherwise depending on the day and activity, I'll keep an eye on this.

Yay Alison! I was looking at my summer calendar yesterday and thinking "darn it, it's been over a year, we need a meet up!"

Saturday the 26th is open, but as a general rule Friday nights are better for us. We're open for anything and pretty much anywhere.

As an aside, did you see the article about the place we went for the 10th annivesary? I don't know if they've got the brewing up and running, but we'd be all over some special Metafilter Meet Up beer when they're ready to go.

I will be in town, but unsure of my social obligations. I will keep an eye on this thread.

Okay, let me lay out some options and we can pick the ones that we like.

1. We go back to Hough's on the 26th.
2. We go somewhere else (Hofbrauhaus, Church Brew Works, etc.)
3. Movie in the Park picnic - Where the Wild Things Are (free!)
- Friday, the 25th - Arsenal Park
- Saturday, the 26th - Observatory Hill
- Sunday, the 27th - Schenley Park
4. Cafe at Phipps for lunch on the 26th (bonus: kid friendly)
5. Metafilter day at the Carnegie Museum
6. Metafilter day at the Carnegie Library cafe in Oakland
7. Blue Moon in Lawrenceville for Drag Queen Night on the 26th

Let me know what you think! Feel free to add your own suggestions.

This sounds like fun but I will be a little occupied taking care of a newborn baby in a few days. Otherwise I would totally be there. Mathowie needs to explore the potential market for MetaFilter onesies--I would totally pick up a "special snowflake" onesie.

I'd be up for something, though being a real vampire I do not sparkle in the daylight, I incinerate and kill as many of those around me as I can in a last, desperate act of senseless vengeance. So I vote for something in the evening. I'll follow the thread as it goes, though.

Aww, congrats you guys!

I might be up for meetupness, but not sure when would really be 'best' for me.

Of Alison's options, Phipps/museum appeal the most but I'm flexible.

I think I'm mostly free that weekend; all of Alison's activities sound like fun.

Hey! Somebody picked something! Thanks, Miratime!

So, the cafes (both Phipps and Carnegie Museums) don't have the best hours, making Saturdays and Sundays at lunchtime our best bet, though only Phipps is open on Sundays.

Skipping the holiday weekend we have the following possibilities:

Saturday, June 26th
Sunday, June 27th
Saturday, July 10th
Sunday, July 11th

Let me know which ones won't work for you.

We can do a more vampire friendly event later in the year, maybe at the bloodbank in Monroeville.

Okay, I heard from just one Pittsburgh MeFi member, so by fiat I am going to set our next meetup at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 11th at the Phipps Cafe.

If you are in town only for this weekend MeMail me and I will take you out to pancakes.

Also, you guys, EARTHQUAKE!

Alison, that works for my schedule and I don't see anything on my wife's (darthduckie) calendar for that date either.

Man, now I wish I'd been really really unaccommodating in my memail to you, Alison. Like "I'm available in five minute increments with 15 minutes breaks in between, from 3-7 AM on Sunday."

Anyway, that works for me, of course.

I'm fairly certain we can make that as well. Fantastic - looking forward to seeing everyone!

Sounds good! Planning on attending, barring any unforeseen disasters.

Okay, we have our first IRL thread!

Note that the map is not quite right. I blame technology for not living up to my expectations.

Alison, in society as in crafts, you are a constant maker of things.
