Madison meetup February 21, 2004 10:17 PM   Subscribe

You know, I had quite a wonderful time at the last Madison, WI meetup. So how about another one?

I had a great time at the last meetup too, and I'm up for it again.

As long as no one punches me in the head this time.

I missed the last one, but I'd be in for the next.

I promise not to punch anyone in the head.

I cannot confirm or deny any reports of punchings in the head, though it is highly likely that I would entertain notions of attending another Madison meetup.

How about Saturday, March 5?
posted by UKnowForKids at 8:47 PM on February 22, 2004

I don't think that will work for me, as the 5th is a Friday.
posted by rocketman at 7:30 AM on February 23, 2004

Perhaps UKnow was planning ahead to March 5, 2005.

Regardless, March 5 or 6 (2004) work for me.
posted by Inkslinger at 2:18 PM on February 23, 2004

March 6th is my birthday, so I'd probably not be available for a meetup, unless I wanted to alienate my girlfriend and my sister.

Weekends are generally just bad for me. How about a Sunday night? I love working hungover on Mondays.
posted by rocketman at 3:13 PM on February 23, 2004

Whooo yah March 5 /6 open here.

Or, perhaps I was drunk.

Which I think I was.

Why don't we shoot for Friday the 5th, then? Sunday doesn't seem like it would be a good idea for our Milwaukee counterparts, if they decide to come again this time.

Rocketman, do you still have the list of Madison/Milwaukee members?
posted by UKnowForKids at 10:42 PM on February 24, 2004

Venue? The last one was at the Dane, right? How'd that work for you?
posted by mimi at 6:49 AM on February 25, 2004

I don't have that list, UKnow. I am not terribly organized in that regard.

If it happens on the 5th, I probably cannot attend. The Dane is a good place to have it, though.
posted by rocketman at 7:45 AM on February 25, 2004

I'd love to come visit again (and can probably talk crystalblue into it, as well), but neither of us will be available the weekend of March 5.

Any other dates anyone wants to throw out there?

The Dane was an excellent choice. Many fine, fine beverages available there.

How does the week after that look for everyone?
posted by mimi at 4:22 PM on February 25, 2004

The following Saturday (March 20th) would work better for me.
posted by crystalblue at 5:06 PM on February 25, 2004

Saturday the 20th would be absolutely fantastic for me. The weekend of the 13th is out for me, as I'll be in NY visiting a certain special lady then. But the 20th would be great.
posted by UKnowForKids at 5:27 PM on February 25, 2004

We'll see about the 20th. I can get back to y'all.
posted by rocketman at 5:03 AM on February 26, 2004

You do realize that'll be the big St Patricks weekend? (20th) We've got company that weekend...
posted by mimi at 7:15 AM on February 26, 2004

Oh balls, St. Pattie's day. What about Nick's on State Street? It's not such a great place, but it's not going to be packed with puking 20-year-olds, either. It'll definitely be quiet. And then if we feel adventurous, we can find another bar.
posted by UKnowForKids at 8:17 AM on February 26, 2004

Is Mickey's usually nutty on St Patricks Day? Would Friday night avoid some of that crowd?
posted by mimi at 8:56 AM on February 26, 2004

Is Mickey's the place on Willy Street? I've only been there once, so I have no idea what their St. Patrick's Day is like.
posted by UKnowForKids at 9:06 AM on February 26, 2004

20th works for me. Added bonus: It's mere days away from crystalblue's b-day. (you're welcome, crystalblue)

Hmm. Guess that means I'll be driving this time. ;-)

Is it really that crowded the weekend after St. Paddy's (especially if it falls on a Wednesday, like this year)? Here's it's pretty much just nutty on the day and then it goes back to normal. Of course, we're not completely overrun with college students, either.

Other workable dates (in case the 20th is out): 3/27, 4/10. Actually, the only date I can't make it is 4/3.
posted by aine42 at 10:49 AM on February 26, 2004

workable:
3/5 & 3/6
3/12 & 3/13
3/19

peschy:
3/20 (MIL visiting)

pooey:
3/26 & 3/27
posted by mimi at 11:48 AM on February 26, 2004

In Madison, any remote closeness to any sort of holiday is taken as an excuse to binge drink. At least by the college students.

This means both weekends surrounding St. Patrick's Day are going to be chaos.

UKnow has an excellent point - Nick's is a great alternative in a central location. It does not get overcrowded with tools, mooks, and suckers.
posted by rocketman at 12:14 PM on February 26, 2004

Since 3/20 is "peschy" for mimi (I assume that's a bad thing), what about Friday, March 19th? Or would that knock out someone else?

Let's go ahead and settle on Nick's as a venue. At least that's one thing we don't have to worry about.
posted by UKnowForKids at 1:45 PM on February 26, 2004

Ou et la Nick's? Here? Cannot picture it for the life of me. Sure, that's fine. I've also found the White Horse and Paul's to be less full of asshattery on crowded party weekends.
posted by mimi at 4:37 PM on February 26, 2004

Well, no negatory responses for March 19th yet. Milwaukee folks, can you make it?
posted by UKnowForKids at 7:47 PM on February 26, 2004

With the 19th, as with the 20th, I have to check with my legal guardian.
posted by rocketman at 7:10 AM on February 27, 2004

As far as I can tell, the 19th is okay.
posted by interrobang at 1:01 PM on February 27, 2004

Fridays are tough for me to make it (I don't usually get out of work until 7-ish) and they're nearly impossible for crystalblue, since she drives up from Chicago on Friday nights.

If Fridays are the consensus for the Madison group, though, maybe we'll just sit this round out.
posted by aine42 at 1:29 PM on February 27, 2004

Saturdays are about the only night of the week that would work for a Madison meetup for me, so if Fridays work better for the majority of people, then I will have to take a pass on this round. :(
posted by crystalblue at 1:50 PM on February 27, 2004

Interrobang and rocketman, is the 20th out for you folks?
posted by UKnowForKids at 2:31 PM on February 27, 2004

(Here come those Milwaukeeans, crashing the party and causing trouble again. Tsk.)

One of these days, we'll have to have the rest of you over for beer n' conversation, instead of the other way around. :)
posted by aine42 at 2:40 PM on February 27, 2004

20th's fine with me, too. Being unemployed, most days are.
posted by interrobang at 3:03 PM on February 27, 2004

Its ok with me Rocketman, go have fun with your friends, but you better not come home smelling of cigarettes.
posted by eastlakestandard at 3:22 PM on February 27, 2004

OK, let's go with the 20th, then, as it seems to be agreeable to the greatest number of people. Mimi, can you make it on this "peschy" date? I assume since it's not "pooey" that it's not completely out of the question, although I must admit that I'm not totally up on the distinction between the two.
posted by UKnowForKids at 8:34 PM on February 27, 2004

My mother-in-law is coming to visit as well as (I think) her sister. If it's just the MIL she's pretty cool so maybe I can swing by with all in tow but I doubt it. :-/

Peschy is actually spelled pesci, it's an oooooold SNL reference. "I could eat fish, I could not eat fish. I'm just sort of pesci." So really, I guess 3/20 is more pooey than pesci. 97% pooey.
posted by mimi at 1:33 PM on February 29, 2004

Well, unfortunately for mimi, it looks like Saturday the 20th will be the best date all around. I'm sure we'll be out late enough for you to swing by after the family's been put to bed, though...

So I'll exercise executive power here and state that the next Madison meetup will be on Saturday, March 20, at 8:00 p.m. at Nick's Restaurant on State St. Miss it at your peril.
posted by UKnowForKids at 9:09 PM on March 1, 2004

I'm not coming.
posted by rocketman at 3:19 AM on March 2, 2004

I'll be there.
posted by interrobang at 9:53 AM on March 2, 2004

I'll be there. I'm sure that goes for crystalblue as well, but she's off suffering through a week of skiing in Colorado at the moment, so she'll need to answer for herself when she returns.

Yes, her's is a hard life.

So this Nick's you speak of... is this the correct place?
posted by aine42 at 10:52 AM on March 2, 2004

Yes, that's definitely it.
