Metafilter links don't open new windows January 11, 2006 6:48 AM   Subscribe

I can't get my links to open in a new window (I used the target="_blank" tag). Is this a bug, is it intentional, or am I doing something irredeemably stupid?

I'm pretty sure it's intentional because when I look at the code for your post, the target= part is stripped right out. Since MeFi has options to allow people to open links in new windows if they want to, overriding this with HTML is seen as less than desireable.

If it's not intentional, it should be. Please don't do that. If I want a link to open in a new window, I know how to make my browser do that. I don't need you to decide for me when that should happen.

Its not just you, but the answer to that question is almost always yes.

Since nobody else is willing to make a stand: what majick said, dammit.

It's intentional. I strip any and all targets people make because the preferences set the behavior for people, not the posters themselves.
