Thin, soggy pancakes

I realize pancake recipes have been done to death already, but
the subject ought to be brought up in light of those thin, soggy looking things.

Not that it isn't a good thing to have pancakes, even thin, soggy looking ones. But still.... back of the Bisquick box, big guy. They're much fluffier'n that.

I like thin pancakes better than the big poofy ones, which make me feel sick about 15 minutes after I eat them. I think it's psychosomatically linked to the mental picture of poofy pancakes expanding in my stomach and making my other internal organs crowded and uncomfortable.

Yours is of course a perfectly valid opinion, jennyb, but... if it's not prying, why in the world do you get a mental picture of pancakes expanding uncontrollably in the first place? It can't be too common to imagine one's food growing internally, can it?

They were buckwheat flapjacks with some oats in them, not some store bought, high perservative, fluffy, tasteless dough circles. They're thin 'n hearty.

jennyb, I am in complete agreement. Thin pancakes are the bomb. In fact, McDonald's pancakes are some of the best.

Three words, people: blue corn meal.

Pancakes with some cornmeal in 'em are really, really, incredibly good. Light vanilla, touch of lemon zest, mmm... But then, I'm some sort of freak, because I don't like em flat enough. Are those thin extra-chewy pancakes an east coast thing or something, or am I just living a sheltered life? My grandma made the paper-thin, stinky sour buttermilk ones, so I tend to negatively associate thin pancakes with those.

I'm still finding it hard to believe people conceive of their chow mutating into some sort of monsterosity inside them, though, and the subject is curiously fascinating to me in that "wacky cultural disorder link of the day" -- hyar, hyar, lookit thems people, theys different from me -- kind of way.

oh, and mathowie? I was using you as a foil -- the real point was to start a pancake [recipe?] thread from your snapshot of tasty morning goodness. t'wasn't intended to sound as critical as I now realize it reads, and I most sincerely apologize for harshly criticizing your breakfast. My snarkiness gland is a little out of whack from sleep deprivation lately. I do hope you thoroughly enjoyed that stack.

An off-topic question: When you see that pancake bunny, do you imagine it as having a voice? Like, I know it's stupid, but whenever I see it, I imagine it having a really gruff, construction-worker type voice, and it's saying, "Ehh, it's a living."

This will teach me to post to a pancake thread then forget about it...

But I think the expanding food visual comes from the overwhelmingly full feeling I get from eating fluffy pancakes. I'll be fine, eating and enjoying my breakfast, when suddenly I'll feel so full so fast I almost have to spit out whatever's in my mouth for fear of ending up like that big fat guy on The Meaning of Life. Being a visual thinker, I naturally attribute the feeling to pancakes that perform like those expanding sponge dinosaur capsules.

(As for the PhotoShop projects, I haven't laughed that hard since the first time I saw the Pancake Bunny, which made me laugh for about two weeks. Something about animals with things on their heads gets me every time. (The Miami Dolphins logo is an endless source of amusement to me.))
