As the first person home from the NYC gathering (uh, as usual)...
posted by rich to Bugs at 8:34 PM (138 comments total)

damn.. did it to bugs again, as usual, too...

but anyway.. it was a good time.. nice to see some semi-familiar faces, do the monkey with everyone, and find some Middletown, NJ hometown locals.

Jonmc does, in fact, have a woman.. and she's nice and funny and fun, to boot. I'm definately investing in ice skates for the impending hell freezing over thing.

Oh, and go CompUSA! Oh, I mean Gateway.

Off to bed for me.. the wife is going to check in on me soon. Sorry I couldn't stay for longer.. keep getting together.. I'll be out 'till 5 am one of these days.

We may have beat you home (quixoticlife and I). Pics here (sorry I didn't get everyone, like I wanted to).

Mucho fun. Just ask Koko the monkey.

Don't want to disapoint or anything, commish among others, but thomcat is a pretty normal looking dude. No johnny rotten or anything. But he's got a lot on his mind, which is why Zachsmind, Puga and myself tried to convince him to start his own blog. I think he may soon (hopefully). Sadly enough, i get the feeling that he may get more links on his first week than i've gotten in almost a year and a half. Leia took pics. Hopefully they'll all (3) be up soon. It was fun though. Definitely enjoyed it. And to all of you that didn't have meetups....eat your hearts out!

In that picture of Witchstone and rich (me, I mean) that adam quotes above, the monkey behind the monkey is jonmc.

And in my defense, jonmc and I were encouraged by the cult-mob to stretch out koko in that picture. Cheered on, even. Threatened with bodily harm if we didn't do it.

Koko is surprisingly resilient and strong, by the way.

Miguel, jpoulos and I had a terrific time on the beach - tried to patch a call through to Kafkaesque in LA, but failed. We lingered, we laughed, Miguel got drubk, john shuddered in the fetal position, and eventually we left.

I had a great time, and regret not meeting more people. I suppose my fear of turning my back to the door kept me from mingling as much as I'd have liked. The lighting made us all look kinda scary.

yeah, unfortunately my need for being employed has superseded my desire to wear metal and get two trillion tattoos.

however, i'm still able to stick it to the man by wearing a suit! take that, corporate casual!

I used to have both ears pierced, a ponytail that went down to the small of my back, and almost got a tatoo of animals doing nasty things to each other, but one day I looked in the mirror and realized I looked like a fat hippie. So it was either be exceedingly profound or join the rat race. Guess which one pays the bills?

Because the Great Dane now officially sucks; not quite, but I can't handle the crowd that hangs there. When all the self-important businessmen sipping brandy (HELLO?! Brewpub?!) and smoking cigars clear out, I'll start going there again.

Except that I won't be there to witness it if they do.

"I love the looks of you and the lure of you,

The eyes, the arms, and the the mouth of you,
The East, West, North, and the South of you!

I'd love to gain complete control of you,
Handle even the heart and soul of you
Love at least a small percent of me do,

(Though less mysterious than MY typo. Forgive me, I've woken up within the past five minutes.)

...

(And yes, it's sad to admit that the first thing that I do in the morning is check my e-mail and the sites I frequent for updates.)

The Mefi NYC meet must be the most well-documented MefiMeet in history. And yet... nothing definitively embarassing or naughty, save for the not-so-surreptitious but mild-jealousy-inducing Anil-Witchstone embrace shots. Not a flash in sight! Nary an abortive fistfight that devolved into a pathetic wrassling match! Not even a thrown drink or shoe.

If I'm going to live vicariously through you people - and look, you migth say, through my dear Goneill's beautiful devileyes - you all are going to have to crank it up a notch, ok?

Hey, SapphireBlue, my accusation of lameness was not to those MeFites who didn't sign up for the event, but for those who did, and didn't show up. I felt like a jilted bride, a stood-up date, a guy showing up at a party the wrong night, lonely, forlorn, and lost. brownpau offered his broad shoulder for me to cry on, but I was inconsolable, broken, a shell of a man.
*sniff*

Man, I had a large forehead. At least when I'm standing next to jonmc.

As for the Great Dane - sipping brandy? Someone should go smack those dumbasses around. Trendy wanna-be yuppies.

UncleFez - the New York group is going to assemble the mpeg movies we all made at a cheap hotel/brothel down the street.

Did I mention "and sell them for lots of money."? Man, did I screw that one up.

Geez, I look like Wilson from Home Improvement in this shot.

Except that I have nothing profound or insightful to say.

You know, something titillating, man!

Elbow fetishism is so '90's.

(Please let me be the least photogenic person out there... Please tell me I don't look like that normally...)

You gotta be kidding me goneill - you look great.

I sadly must re-claim, yet again, my god-given territory: Miss Unphotogenic for 6 years running...

as you can see it was wholly up to jonmc to redeem the photo...

...and he failed miserably.

When looking at those photos of me, remember that the camera adds an extra 150 pounds.

For the record, it was so dark in there that I couldn't actually *see* anyone through the monitor of my digital camera. All I could see were the lights -- everything else was black -- so I had to *guess* where people were in the shot.

Despite my photographic guessery, y'all are *still* a bunch of groovy-looking people. * Mwah! *

metrocakes and ev's were a little better.

It's good to see the red eye is still prominent. It's frightening, no? When you see me in person my eyes appear human, but when photographed...

Fes, miss you much, if only because I am not called 'my darling' often enough.
