Metafilter meetup in the Vibe Bar, off Brick Lane this Saturday October 2nd (original thread here).
Laughing out loud here. If I could make it, I'd do my best to look for a book called "Weenies".

Shame, I'll be just up the road at the Barbican for Roy Ayers' afrobeat set (part of the Fela Kuti season). I might wander in afterwards if it isn't ridiculously late.

Do we have space/room reserved, or are we going to show up to a Central London DJ bar on a Saturday night and expect to be able to find/hear each other?

Wow, that sounded bitchy. What I meant to say was:
"Having been to a meetup a couple of years ago, I found that a loud/clubbish environment was not particularly conducive to the delightful exchange of ideas that is characteristic of such gatherings. Have arrangements been made with these factors in mind?"

Looking forward to meeting you all. I'll be carrying a book called "Graph Colouring and the Probabilistic Method". I am eight feet tall and have bright blue hair.
Is anyone able to suggest a reasonably-priced place to stay not crazily far from the Vibe Bar? I have to take the Picadilly line to Heathrow at around 7:00 AM and I hear pubs don't stay open that late in England.

Being eight feet tall as I am, and having bright blue hair as I do, I often find that my mere presence in a bar, crowded and noisy though it may initially be, is enough to clear a space for me and my compatriots.

I'm happy just to show up and hope we find each other. ;)
(It's quite a big place and when I've gone on a Friday evening there's usually been places to sit, at least in the early evening).

The Vibe bar is impossibly crowded inside. We'll be outside. Unless it rains, I guess, and we'll have to go somewhere else near. There are many places.

What Pretty_Generic said. There is no shortage of places nearby. I'll try to sit outside for you and see you there.

You could practically spend the night on the Piccadilly line train to Heathrow, the amount of time it takes to get there...
I'm not sure what your criteria for reasonably-priced is (I've only really ever booked business hotels for people in this area), but you might be able to get a cheapish deal at the Thistle Barbican (which is a bog-standard chain hotel) if they're quiet, which is quite possible considering they're in the business district and it's a weekend night.
