New Jersey MeFi/MoFi meetup November 4, 2004 2:13 PM Subscribe
Reminder: NJ MeFi/MoFi Meetup this Saturday evening, November 6, 2004 in New Jersey. [mi]
Dang, and Montclair's my hometown (haven't lived there in many years mind you). Coincidentally our home was on Bellevue Ave, in the 200's as well.
I still live close by (Lambertville), and work even closer (nyc), and would love nothing more to catch this specific meetup under the circumstances (insert DAMN here), yet that evening (and day) I'm to have a housewarming.
'Spoke with amberglow and others not long ago about arranging some outrageous meetup which methinks is time to resurrect. 'Time of year will determine the "theme" if you will. More on this later.
Meanwhile, please email me (dan at bluedaniel dot com), so I can send you my home and/or cell number (amberglow may still have it). Call me that night, let me know who's there (or rather - how many) and I'll buy you all a drink. I'll contact Tinga Taqueria to make the arrangements beforehand.

I'm in, but anyone wanna pick me up somewhere? (path, or ferry, or njtransit or something that's not complicated/expensive for me?)
bluedaniel, i'll cross the river anytime--it's actually fun in nj (and the smoking in bars helps too) : >

Any attending east coasties got wireless hi-speed at the destinations, a recent powerbook, iChat, and and iSight? If so, geekery may ensue! Comment in the PNW thread, please!

I have none of the above, mwhybark, and the only local WiFi access I can find documented online is whatever Starbucks is offering (for $, I believe). If someone has a chat-ready computer though I hope they'll bring it along. Maybe some wardriving can be done after dinner.

I have a computer with wifi (and an account with TMobile, which is who does Starbuck's wireless), but its a clunky old dell. I always feel inadequate when I pull out my technology at MeFi meetups...

I checked, Karmakaze, and AOL Instant messenger 5.5 can do video chat with iChat AV 2.1, so if you've got AIM 5.5 and a webcam we might be able to wave at mwhybark. At the very least I'll have some digicam shots up at Flickr shortly after we adjourn.

Actually, I have no webcam. See how technologically inferior I am? See?

I have a crummy webcam and a [PC] notebook that I just might be able to get working, but only if we can find free Wifi.
I also thought of a great place for us to adjourn to for dessert (and I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier, as it's a great backup possibility for dinner, albeit a boozeless dinner): The Soda Pop Shop, a fun old-fashioned ice cream parlor and burger joint on Bloomfield Ave. And I mustn't forget another fine source of ice cream (this one al fresco): Applegate Farm, maybe a mile from Tinga.
So if anyone [else] wants ice cream, we're covered.
On preview: Can you tell I haven't eaten yet this evening?

two of my recent favorites (due mainly to diminished sense of right-n-wrong) --
newcastle brown ale with vanilla ice cream
samuel smith's imperial stout with caramel ice cream
oh wait it's not that kind of ice cream place. bastards.

like a beer float? I wonder if that works with vodka?

exactly. and it definitely works with bourbon, so I imagine vodka would be fine as well.

The Soda Pop Shop sounds fine to me (I like burgers and ice cream), and my presence is now practically certain (since my wife and I are sick to death of boxing stuff and our hands are getting all dry and full of little cuts and we need a break). See you then!

FYI the notebook I intended to bring is dead, dead, dead. If anyone else has a computer with WiFi, put some IM software on it and bring it along. I'll bring my crummy camera and the driver disk just in case.

ok, I'll tote the isight just in case. I'll poke into #mefi first and we can figure out details from there.

What: NJ MeFi/MoFi Meet-up
Date: Saturday, November 6, 2004
Time: 6:00 pm
Location: Tinga Taqueria, 215 Bellevue Avenue, Montclair, NJ. Phone: 973-509-8226.
Specs: BYO
Since the restaurant is apparently very very tiny, I'm sure there will be no question about finding each other. Just look for the crew of miscreants and reprobates...
Afterwards, we can either grab coffee at Eclectic Cafe (Bloomfield Ave) or a drink at South Park Bar (Park Street). Or both. Or none.
Aside from significant others, lurkers, and friends, here is the latest list: me, adampsyche, possible languagehat, possible amberglow, Karmakaze, immlass, goddam, and songdog!
