Is My Email On File? August 5, 2005 6:15 AM Subscribe
Last week I had to log in and forgot (temporarily) my password. I asked that it be sent to my email address and received the message that I had no email on file. Today I received an email from Jessamyn about something unrelated, so it has to be on file. Huh?
Surely if we can do Live Preview and the Google Maps API we can have a simple form for password recall and changing. Just saying.

I question your commitment to sparkle motion.

At the very least it is not shown on your profile page.

My guess is the password-mailer thing sends your password to the email address in your profile which, in your case, is absent. We have an admin interface that has the email address you used when you signed up.

Yes, I gave my password at sign up but chose not to have it displayed. This would still be my choice; it's just too bad that this seems to make the password function non-functioning.

How embarrassing for you - maybe you will bury this username and buy another one so we don't all refer to this next time you post. $5 isn't much to pay for being a dickhead in public.

I agree - I find it great value.

It's a bug in my code, you don't have to display your email in public in order to get emailed. I'll look into it.

Sorry to be clueless. I wasn't trying to be a dickhead and I guess I still don't know how I've offended. I didn't think it was a conspiracy and I actually thought it might be helpful to bring it up.

And it was. The whole point of a non-displayed e-mail is so that the admins & the password retrival system can contact you when required. Matt says you've found a bug. Good on ya.

Bah, if something offensive is said towards you, assume they're being a sarcastic bastard and move on. Would solve a lot of problems 'round here.

I was just kidding you, Morrigan. There really is no conspiracy. At least, not as far as you know...

I'm a sarcastic barstard sometimes.
And this would probably be a better place if people put an email in their profile, or the conspiracy might spread.

Don't believe crunchland's "I was just kidding you"...He's the one person you should always take seriously on MeFi.
Kwanstar'smom pig can attest to this.

So true. I've been a dickhead in public for free so many times that I almost feel like a slacker for not paying for the privilege.

Why not just change Harry Morrigan's password and call it a day?

I also couldn't get my password e-mailed to me this week, but I didn't get the message that I had no e-mail on file. It all seemed okay... apart for the fact that I never got my password e-mail! I changed my e-mail address in my profile and tried it again on the new address but still nothing.
(In case anyone was actually wondering why I asked for my password if I'm so clearly logged in: I'm still logged in at home, but I can't log in anywhere else. I guess I just can't leave the house anymore...)
