HTML Special Characters
Super-trivial bug with HTML special characters. [more inside]
I still think that 304 HTTP headers should be implemented.
"304 Not Modified" redux: I still think that 304 HTTP headers should be implemented. (previous thread)
uppercase html bugs
Uppercase HTML TITLE text in anchor tags gets converted to lowercase (I think via previewing a post). Seen here on AskMe. Also seems to be buggy on MeFi. [MI]
Why is the more inside portion of my AskMe Question showing up in (small)?

Preview breaks html character entities.
HTML entities, like Π or Σ get converted in the input area to the actual displayed characters after a preview.
So when the comment is posted, the displayed characters -- not the entities -- are actually submitted, and the submitted displayed characters are then converted to question marks in the posted comment.
The result is that a preview that looked fine turns into a comment that doesn't.

Also: using the
tag (say to preserve original whitespace) results in double-spaced lines, taking up too much vertical space. Using the tag prevents this, but whitespace is not preserved. Adding appears to be a (n ugly and hard to edit) work-around, but while leading non-breaking spaces within tags are retained in previews, they are stripped in the posted comment.
As a number of askMefi's ask for program code, and as even some FPPs may contain code fragments, this makes the code unreadable or even syntactically incorrect in languages than foolishly assign meaning to whitespace.
And it's a pure pain to spend the time to carefully add the whitespace and to Google the correct HTML entities for a post, only to see them stripped out.

Invalid CFML construct error on front page
Invalid CFML construct error on the MeFi front page when not logged in. Happens in both IE6 and Firefox.
I messed up some html with a single quote.
I inserted a single quote in a post on accident and the MeFi code that normally would be the rest of the page (i.e. all the buttons and such) showed up in my preview textbox.
FYI: I fixed a small bug this morning.
FYI: I fixed a small bug this morning. The html shortcuts were not showing up in firefox browsers but should now, and they seem to work fine on all three sites.
HTML Formatting
Comment window tooltips (bold, italic, link) appear, but are nonfunctional. Mozilla 1.3/WinXP.
Fix Bad HTML, Please
Fake markup = unneeded closing tags? Anyways, the text layout is broken and the font's screwy. Please fix.
Danke.

Characters turning into question marks.
Can any one see what is behind the box? (?)
I can't. I have tried every browser I have on two platforms, OS X and WinXP. Is this case for most people, and if so, why do people keep posting like that?

Formatting Buttons Missing
Hey - is it a bug, my browser, or a glitch: where's the formatting button, ie, BOLD-italic - for Mefi posts? (Win98SE, NS6.2)
bug with the autotranslation of certain characters into HTML codes
There's still a bug with the autotranslation of certain characters into HTML codes. In this thread I just posted, each paragraph describing the AIMbots began with an equals sign followed by a greater-than sign. Hitting "preview" retained these characters, though in the actual text-entry box, they'd all been turned into "=>". Then, upon posting, they all showed up as "=>".
Broken html messing up the place.
Weird Code in Comments
It may be just me, but in just the last couple of days I'm finding that my comments are being auto-appended with extra <p>, resulting in a few lines of blank space after my comments but before the comment footer. At first I figured it was just me being careless with extra <p> tags lying around in my post, but it's happening every time and this test post exhibited the same behavior. In the second paragraph, I typed the line and inserted no paragraph or br tags, and didn't even hit return to start a new line- yet after hitting "Post" there are extra <p> tags in the HTML after posting. Thoughts?
Problems with Links
I can never include a link in my comments. I go through the motions and the appropriate window appears but then, when I preview or post the comment, it either comes out as gobbledygook or disappears.
Why is this? Subliminally it also makes me post more than I would feel like - because URL links are so effectively rendered when you post one to the front-page- so this is a real problem.
What can the matter be?

Bug in the search results.
Is it just me, or are the "Go to the detail view for this result" links on search results not scrolling to the anchor points?
Community HTML fixes
I like the fact that posters can leave HTML tags unclosed and that other people come along and "save" the page. It builds communty strength. Even if a way is devised to automatically close tags, I vote against implementing it.
(and I don't like that I am incapable of editing copy on a computer screen and don't notice errors until it's too late.)

Error with the MeFi scholarship link in Opera.
Opera5 shows the "MetaFilter college scholarship" as an off yellow link but it's not clickable. After a quick glance at the HTML it seems Opera doesn't like the negative value, "margin-top:-20px". It looks like there's an unclosed DIV tag around that area too, well, maybe.
