What purpose do AskMe categories serve today?
Every time I post an AskMe, as I am pondering which category I should post it in, I wonder... Does anyone use these categories? Are they helping discovery or search in some way? Am I missing something by not using them? [more inside]
No "children" category
I just posted an AskMe in the Grab Bag category because I did not find a Parenting/Grandparenting or Children category. Librarians and others, should I have posted it to Human Relations instead? Just looking for a general consensus about where to post such things next time until/unless we add a Children category to Ask. (I think this has been raised in the past but couldn't find a thread when I did a quick search.)
How about a Parenting & Kids Category on AskMeFi?
I've always felt that there is a category missing on AskMeFi. There are so many AskMe posts related to children, parenting, babies, etc - that I really think there should be some kind of all encompassing category for it. I've thought about this for a long time, but today is the day I finally speak up. What do you think? [more inside]
Viva quien vence... but, still...
I'm wondering if we should add a "History" category to Ask Me? I posted this today, and was surprised to find that we don't have this category choice. I wavered between "Grab Bag" and "Society and Culture" and finally went with the latter, though my impression of that category is that it's meant to address quite different, mostly contemporary questions... and checking past questions seems to affirm that it's not a great fit, though probably the best we have. Why not MyMeta?
We have MyAsk. Why not MyMeta? How about a tab that filters by tags. Example: ignore anything with linux or politics. Keep anything with maps or art.
More than one category for AskMes?
I, too, would enjoy a pony: the ability to select more than one category for an AskMe question. [more inside]
Tagging Metafilter
Is there any way of having an overlapping system of tags to categorize these MetaTalk posts? So for 'feature requests' that could be a sub-tag of either the 'Metafilter', 'Ask Metafilter' or 'Metatalk' tags. So when I want to see what is being discussed about improving Ask Metafilter I start by selecting that tag and then start clicking the sub tags to get more specific. Finally, the reason I am asking is because I am concerned about the flooding of questions on AskMe and the thing I would do is have a separate section for technology questions as those questions seem to be at least 50% of all questions asked. Cheers.
Categories on AskMe
Ask MeFi finally has category feeds.
Can perennial AskMe questions be grouped for easier reference?

AskMe Archives by Category
Is there a way to see archived posts in Ask MeFi more than 30 days old by category? If not, it seems like an extremely useful feature--perhaps even show ALL posts by category and then just do "older results" at the bottom of the page on and on until the beginning of MeFi time...
AskMe Archives
Is there a way to view the AskMe category archives beyond a month?
Can we get some more specific categories in AskMe than "Computers & Internet?"
Can we get some more specific categories in AskMe than "Computers & Internet?"
History Category on AskMe
Could "history" be added to the list of ask.me categories? I know that theoretically there could be an endless number of these but "history" seems to be a pretty big omission. I put my recent history question in "society & culture", and so did flexxer, while cuke put his in "grab bag" and my wife put hers in "writing & language".
New askme category: gifts
Can we get a "gifts" category in AskMe? People seem to ask for gift ideas quite often, and it doesn't really belong in "shopping" because it's about brainstorming, not sourcing.
questions get pushed down off the page at AskMe too damn fast
As has been noted before, questions get pushed down off the page at AskMe too damn fast. Most of the questions are good ones. Which means, I guess, we need some better information architecture (categories or something) to happen. When, oh lord†, when?
AskMe Categories
would anyone else like to see categories like here in metatalk on askme? (mi)
Categories on Metafilter and AskMe?
Why doesn't the green or the blue have categories like the grey?
I want this pony
I want this pony: To help make the AskMe archive a little more mineable and thereby cut down on repeat questions, might we include either arbitrary keywords, selected by the questioner, to flag the question, or more simply a choice of categories to apply to the question (as we have in MeTa)?
Making MeFi Experts
Perhaps we should make Ask MetaFilter a Clydesdale instead of a pony: if user profiles included a means of categorizing one's expertise, we'd be able to have Ask MetaFilter automatically email appropriate questions to the experts; we'd be able to hunt down an expert for 1:1 communication; we'd be able to create some sort of synergy.
