Meh.
Boobs + Cured meat /= Best of the Web
Policestate Filter is not Best of the Web
Just a "mefi awesome today" post
Today has been the best day in terms of FPPs in living memory. The sort of day that will keep me coming back for years to come. Can Fridays always be dedicated to the very best of the web? And statistically - what day has provided the most favourites?
Best of the Web
What's the deal with this "best of the web"? [mi]
Best of web, link now broken
MSNBC kills a photo that's the heart of a post in the blue. Now the post is far from best of the Web. What to do?
links not indie hipster enough
Is "best of the web" policy written? Where?
Best of the Web?
I am writing a paper for my Sociology of Cyberspace class and in it, I am referring to Metafilter. Don't worry, nothing sinister, it's just a paper on "How I use the Internet." Anyway, I want to refer to metafilter holding itself to the standard of "Best of the Web" but I can't find that explicitly stated anywhere. Am I missing something? Am I just google-challenged? Or is it just not explicitly stated?

What part of "Best of the Web" do you have a problem with?

best of the yawn
Here we have a short (and fairly dull) Wired article, a link to Google News, a repost, and a bandwidth-exceeded Geocities site. I'm new(ish), but, best of the web?
A regular depository of "Best of the Web" sites

Automatic detection of the un-best of the web?
Would it be possible to do a little real-time checking for easily catchable sub-par posts, and provide the user with a little advice or more information?
One instance where (given the largely negative feedback in this earlier post) this might be appreciated: If the post consists of a single link to an ebay item, present the user with a message as they preview, something along the lines of "You appear to be posting a single link to an item on ebay. Even if you think that it is quirky or wacky or outrageous, metafilter is probably not the place for it, and you may wish to reconsider your post."

what IS the "best of the web?"
An honest question: how would you define "The best of the web" in late 2004 looking forward to 2005? Obviously we live in a political world, but MetaFilter is a longer train of thought, I think. How can we balance current events with interesting and wonderful stuff? It's largely up to the noobs, I think. Matt has taken a huge leap of faith here and he is God but there must be a way to convert our indigenous zealots too. My fingers are crossed for the next few weeks.
Is there anyway MeFi can hope to keep up?
"the point of MetaFilter is to find the best and most interesting of the web" - with the growing popularity of such services as del.icio.us (and the super-useful aggregated popular view), and the rise in popularity of the 'link blog' (waxy, anil and kottke for example) is there anyway MeFi can hope to keep up or is the gradual evolution into current-events lead discussion inevitable?
Examples of excellent posts to inspire
There have been a number of discussions about threads that are not "the best" or that are "(your cause here)filter". As an alternative to commenting on the worthiness of a post after it has been posted to the blue, does anyone think that it might be a good idea to post somewhere examples of what a really good post might be like, as an inspiration to posters yet to come?
Not enough to be the best of the web
Are two book seller links and a book review/article enough to foster a discussion? This concerns thread #31772.
What kind of callout is this?
Generic bitching:
Let's start a pool to see how many quizzes will be posted to MeFi in the next year.
Ok, 2 in a day isn't that much compared to the rest of the week.. maybe someone should register amiaquizornot.com.

Your Seven Wonders of the Web
In light of the Guardian's Seven Wonders of the Web (though more importantly because it would be very interesting) would it be possible to ask Matt and some of Metafilter's most active members to share here in Metatalk what their selections would have been? (I assume its ok to ask and this is an appropriate post ?)
Not even newsfilter...
Newspaper sidebar polls on the FP. Really?
Had those forwarded from my aunt last month.
"So," I clear my throat and hike up my pants, "how bout them last two metafilter links?" Dihydrogen monoxide and an Onion article. Gee whiz.
