Can we fix the <pre>formatted text bug where the live preview looks perfect, but the actual post ends up double-spaced? [more inside]

Can the “« Older” and “Newer »” links at the bottom of post pages use the post titles of the adjacent posts rather than the first few words truncated with an ellipsis?

Is there be a better way to automate links in comments and answers?

Can the favorites pages be tweaked so comments retain their formatting and links? Also, when the page displays the whole of a comment, there shouldn't be an ellipsis after it. TY HUGS

Is there a way to paste formatted (e.g. indented) code into an AskMe response? If not, could such a feature be added? It would really help out threads like this.

I've noticed that AskMefi has a high turnover rate these days, and some questions don't get answered because they age too quickly.
Suggestion: how bout we have two columns of questions instead of one? So that older questions show up next to the newest one - and have a longer life?

As I scroll through a page I would prefer to have the masthead, with its useful navigation links, stay in place at the top of my screen. Is there any way I can make this happen?

Ponyfilter: It'd be really nice if the 'Comments' entry box could be the full width of the browser. MeFi does an excellent job in handling widescreen monitors in all respects but that one. [bit more inside]

A couple of things:
1) When people view your profile and links to answers posted on mefi and such, it looks more like you've posted the question - this seems a little odd, could the actual comments be linked instead (I know they're accessible by clicking on the date, it just seems a slightly unintuitive way of doing it).
2) Mefi and ask.mefi have some GREAT posts on there that I'd love to be able to bookmark within Metafilter (part of my profile maybe?). An example, lots of ask.mefi questions are just damned useful, and I'd like to have a place where I could go and you could see "BishopsLoveSciFi's favourite questions / answers / FPPs".
If it makes it any clearer, think of it working like memories on LJ. (See this FAQ item if you're not an LJer.)

To improve usability, might I suggest doubling the number of columns and rows in the post and comment textareas? I promise to brush it and feed it twice a day, pretty please!

Can we get the little " B I link ABC" box for Ask Metafilter yet?
If we can have it for comments, we might as well have it for questions, too. Several posters could make use of it.

A suggestion to improve Metafilter: When a poster replies to his own post, would it be possible to mark it as such, such as starting out the post with "Poster: ", or maybe each poster could do this manually to make the thread more readable. Just an idea.

On thread pages in AskMe, can the More Inside section be indented like the answers are, or otherwise differentiated from the start of the post?

There's also a plain-text theme for metafilter, with a white background.

I've always wanted to ask this question, how do I get the nifty white background in Metatalk and Ask Metafilter? The white background theme seems only to work on the main page. Am I missing something? Thanks!

My first pony request: in addition to the HTML shortcut buttons that currently exist below the preview field—bold, italic, href—it would also be useful to have buttons for 'blockquote' and 'small' since those tags often get used for quoting news sources. Failing that, what other buttons would be useful?

Colored usernames. How about a per-user defined option to have usernames show up in custom colors to keep track of users I want to read (red) and users I don't (gray) and everyone else (default). Or some other way to highlight when a user I really like posts without having to memorize lots of names.

Is the plain-text version of Metafilter available through a URL hack or a GET request? i.e. can I get the plain-text version without changing my profile? That would be useful for Palm and other small-device versions, esp. for comment pages...

Could we make the Post a Link page's description field be a bit bigger? On my most recent FPP post, I found that I was using a lot of markup (really the first time I had done markup this extensive for a FPP) and having trouble making code changes/editing content because the textbox just seems a bit constricting. Also, this could be helpful for Metatalk as well.

Crazy idea: What if Matt removes the paragraph/linefeed tag from the front page and all text formatting and adds a 'first post/more inside' box to the post a link page? The front page is simply cluttered and annoying when people have a lot to say directly on the front page. Perhaps even a character limit. The less of this the better.

How about a standards-compliant version of MetaFilter or MetaTalk?
Disclaimers: (1) ignominious self-link; (ii) tested in Internet Explorer 5.1 and Netscape 6, should work in all CSS-compliant browsers; (c) guaranteed to look hideous in Netscape 4 et al; (IV) XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS validated by W3C.

Strip all HTML from posts, only allow a few basic tags by using [ and ] like those funny message boards do. This could allow hyperlinking and basic formatting without the problems that, e.g., the style attribute brings up. (There’s no way to prevent people from impersonating other users, messing up the page, etc., except by disallowing the use of HTML.) What do you think?
