It's pretty annoying that inserting carriage returns shows line breaks as typed in the "preview" window, but the final result is breakless (after all, what's the point of the preview?). I've had unpredictable results manually adding "BR" tags and "P" tags...they seem to sporadically interact with the typed carriage returns and yield vast white space. If anyone can point me to a workaround, I'd be appreciative. But, really, it'd be fitting if postings posted per the preview, no?

I suppose this must come up from time to time, but I couldnt' find it searching... I was just viewing AskMe through Safari and when I went to add a comment, the little toolbar for bolding/italcizing/linkifying text wasn't there. I see this is the same on the other pages as well. What up with that?

Hmph. I made a couple of paragraph elements with a background color to highlight colors in this green thread. [more inside]

Problems Posting Code To Ask yet again.

I really wish AskMeFi handled code better. As in, handled HTML, JavaScript, Perl, whatever, with linebreaks and indenting preserved. Some people are smart enough to use the PRE tag, but they still need to escape the HTML brackets, and their code gets extra linebreaks added.

When I need to post code I pre-process it with a script now but the average person isn't that obsessive.

The "regular expressions are overkill" guy has a problem in his code, please note, as does the "screw the dom" guy.

HTML tag (BIG) issue on my AskMe post?

When creating an ordered list (and possibly a bulleted list) for an AxeMe question, it shows up in the preview in Times New Roman. It appears fine when posted.

What HTML tags are allowed on the three main Metafilter sections? (I dare not experiment for obvious reasons.)

The HTML markup of Metafilter proper ("the blue") differs from the markup of Metatalk and Ask Metafilter. Given the upcoming changes to Metafilter's look, can we expect similarity in markup across the site, or should we explicitly not rely on undocumented features of Metafilter? [mi]
