Having just mailed my cards for Project G.I.V.E. M.E. (that is, Great Internet Valentine Exchange, Metafilter Edition), and having had at least as much fun as I did with the winter holiday cards, I'm wondering if there's enough momentum and interest for another project. [more inside]

I could have sworn that a few months ago someone posted an FPP to a webpage made by a couple of guys who designed some interesting "real world" infosec/cryptography/hacking exercises meant to expand awareness of internet security, and now I can't find it anywhere. [more inside]

Blasdelb, Metafilter is not an academic institution or a lending library. We don't get to use the site to redistribute copyrighted works like journal articles in threads about science, or MP3s in music threads, etc. People in academia can already access the articles in question, who can understand those articles enough to add to the thread, and more than likely we do not need proxy access through your library, as impressed as we all are by your library card. What you're doing is illegal, but more to the point, it helps publishing houses justify onerous terms to libraries I use for my research, which aggravates me to no end when I can't get access to articles related to my work. What you are doing sucks, so please knock it off. Thanks.

Looking for a post about glaring errors in hacker movies. I am not sure if it is the post itself or if it came up in the comments, but I'm sure I remember a thread about stupid errors using IT in films, especially 'hacker' type films. Sorry, my search-foo is weak today.
