1) a comment in a sci-fi/short stories/drones post on the blue about a flock of drones coming home to roost at sunset (possibly glittering in the sunlight?). Posted some time in the last few years.

Seeking Metafilter comment speculating about a gender-changing lab prank

A while back on Metafilter somebody posted a comment imagining a scenario where a lab employee (or student?) in the near future could do a prank using some sort of bio-tech hack to change a co-worker's gender for a few days. IIRC the commenter said they had worked in a lab and they seemed to believe this sort of thing might actually happen someday. [more inside]

The Metafilter comment that was a short sci-fi story

Help me find an old Metafilter comment! It was in response to a FPP whose subject I've forgotten. The comment itself was styled a short story where far into the future, people have banded into primitive tribes, each one holding onto a few remnants of technology today. These items are highly regarded even though they have no idea what to do with them. One item was a canister that they never opened but could hear the rattle of something inside. [more inside]
