Instead of Reddit I use MetaFilter. Instead of Twitter I use Mastodon. I'm interested in what your other alternative platforms are? I'm also interested in platforms like MetaFilter that are designed/maintained by people that are trustworthy. These choices matter because I'm trying my best to be a part of a more ethical/social platform and still stay connected with a digital community. What are your recommendations?
It's time for a roll call of the social-media inclined pets of Metafilter! [more inside]
The Social Apps section of our profiles is getting badly dated. There are over 120 sites listed, but some of them are dead (AIM, Gawker), some are ambiguous (is Glitch referring to the old shared universe site or the new programming site?), and the absence of Mastodon is becoming an obstacle: We have to advertise our usernames on active threads because we can't put them in our profiles. “what's your online genealogy. mine is: digimon forums moderator -> rpg maker - > somethingawful -> lf -> twitter” ~ @immolationsIt got me thinking about the various online communities I've been a part of in my digital life, the different digital phases I've posted, shared, & tweeted my way through. Hi MeFites: I thought the original tilde.club (previously on MeFi) was a really neat idea. Now that there is a larger proliferation of other tilde groups inspired by the original, with many accepting membership applications, I was wondering if any of you fine people are active users (or admins!).
MeFi cyclists/runners: your Strava account, if you have one, is now linkable in the "Also On:" section of your profile. In this same update it looks like pb has also added: Steepster, Newsblur, Hacker News, ResearcherID, ResearchGate, and eBay (any others, pb?). Related link: MeFi Social Explorer (for finding other users with profiles on growing list of linkable communities). [more inside]

Would it be possible to add Mlkshk to the list of social apps we can add to our profiles? No rush, obvs. Thank you in advance for looking at this shaken, but not stirred pony!
