NYC Meetup: "I want this motherf*ing meetup in my motherf*ing city"
This post was deleted for the following reason: Poster's Request -- goodnewsfortheinsane
I think the premiere showings in NYC are on Thursday at 10:00. [at least that's what the tickets I bought say].

Good thinking. Union Square is where it's at. I'll likely hit up a bar or two for a half dozen pints beforehand. I have no idea how crazy it will or won't be.

You know, I've been more aware of the (becoming increasingly annoying) meme than the movie itself. Why do people think this is going to be good? (Not saying it won't be, just wondering what this is all based on.)

No one thinks it is going to be good, at least not in the usual sense of the word. The hope is that it will be such an astonishingly bad trainwreck of a movie that it becomes good through its sheer badness.

Snakes on a Plane as eternal ouroboros....
And the movie posters use the image of a caduceus, itself a pale memory of the axis mundi, and the serpent's ancient role as a traveler between worlds and powerful shamanic spirit....
Could Snakes on a Plane stumble, drunkenly, through no fault on its own, into faint echoes of profundity? And wouldn't that say something for the Barnum effect, eh?
Most importantly, how am I supposed to properly enjoy the vapid nature of Snakes on a Plane, if they're going to throw my brain just enough for it to chew on like this?
"I want these motherfucking symbols off my motherfucking movie!"

Please excuse me for being so direct, Afroblanco, but I think that by going to see SoaP you are making a terrible mistake.
Drinking beer, now that's a good idea. After you all see SoaP, let's drink beer.

please don't forget that the movie was supposed to be laughably bad and therefore fun at first because the movie wasn't in on the joke. now that it IS in on the joke, the joke will be ruined.
otherwise, enjoy your movie, and please post a post movie bar here. i may, in fact, be able to attend a meetup for the first time ever, though i've said that before.

Metro-North fare to NYC, $21.86.
MetroCard fare, $4.00.
Movie ticket, $10.00.
Soda & popcorn, $7.00.
Red Stripe beer, $3.00.
Samuel L. Jackson's Snakes on a Plane line? Not worth it.
So maybe...
Gas fare to the local mall, 53 cents.
Movie ticket, $10.00.
Soda & popcorn, $7.00.
Gas fare home, 53 cents.
Beer and dinner at the corner pub, $16.10.
Samuel L. Jackson's Snakes on a Plane line? Not worth it.
Hmm...
Snarking on MetaFilter, $5.00.
Promising to catch the next NYC Meetup, priceless.
There's some things from Hollywood that aren't worth money. Among the better things in life, there's MetaFilter.

Damn, I just thought of the cure for AIDS, but it got bumped out by yet another "* on a motherfucking *" comment.
Samuel L. Jackson, why do you hate gay people?

I'm in the Meatbomb camp.
I dig MeFites.
I dig their company and conversation.
I do not dig Hollywood flicks.
Soooo . . . I'd be very happy to meet up with y'all at Revival or any other place where you would be drinking afterwards.

I'm tempted but $10 for one great line doesn't cut it for me. Sorry, now if instead it was a screening of Withnail and I....well then...
Withnail: What are you going to do with those?
D: The joint I am about to
roll requires a craftsman and can utalise up to twelve spliffs.
It is called a Camberwell cawwot.
I: It's imposible to use 12 papers on one joint.
D: It is impossible
to roll a camberwell cawwot with anything less.
Withnail:
Who says it's a Camberwell carrot.
D: I do. I invented it in
Camberwell and it's shaped like a cawwot.

I won't be making it...typing this from a cruise ship off the coast of Alaska. Not that I want to see that movie anyway. See you all next time.

I suppose I could have just said 'I'm not going' or 'I can't make it' but I provided a little context only to show that, really, I physically can't be there, and also that while I'm into meetups I'm not into seeing that movie. Cruises are more affordable than you'd think, and I certainly lay no claim to cool.
