I've been trying to track down the recent snarl that was holding up the server. It seemed to rest on the ColdFusion engine. I've updated the server to the latest release, but it's just a 30-day demo, and I'll revert the previous release if the performance doesn't skyrocket as Macromedia claims. After the install, I couldn't get the database server to come back to life, which was responsible for all the SQL server not found error messages. Eventually, after stripping out all the extra new features of CF5, things seem back to normal. Hopefully things stay zippy. posted by mathowie at 3:41 PM on September 28, 2001

It's a Macromedia product machaus of course it's not free.
An upgrade to ColdFusion 5.0 Professional from 4.5 would run you $650.
Macromedia also has a subscription program, which appears to give you free upgrades for two years. An upgrade with a two year subscription is $1165.
