Village Voice piece about Metafilter is in this week's print edition November 16, 2005 6:28 AM   Subscribe

Whaddya know, I was right: The Village Voice piece about Metafilter is in this week's print edition.

Unfortunately, the screen shot didn't make it. They made up their own icon: It's a food processor. Inside is a screenshot of Tony Blair, the 7 of Hearts, and a Hyper Cube (labeled). On top sits a pug wearing a bumblee suit. The processor is labeled "Metafilter".

Oh, and the cover story is "Abortion: Television's Last Taboo".

Can you scan it, ThePinkSuperhero?

Hmmm, let me look into that... I don't have a scanner, but maybe someone at work would do me a favor....

Ok! Getting it scanned right now.

Oh boy. I'm excited to see the illustration thingy. "Hey, Greg, I love what you've done. Food processor. Clever. Throw in a pug in a bumblebee suit, though. Then it'll really pop."

On preview: yes, gah, it's kinda big. Thanks!

I totally thought you were just making up that description of the screenshot.

Works for me, and thanks, Pink.

We are, however, doomed.

I know- I felt totally ridiculous describing that picture.

Yes. A little big but we get the idea.

The photo illustration needs to be big for it to be fully appreciated. That pug looks quite peeved.
posted by Uncle Glendinning at 6:45 AM on November 16, 2005

Sorry it's so big (I blocked my work IP from seeing my website, so I can't see the image here at work)- let me see if I can fix that.

Peeved at Metafilter.

Haha, well as look as it's OK, I'll just leave it. I should probably be doing real work, anyway.

I posted the scan to Flickr for those who want to see it all on their human-sized monitor.

Why the hell does it say "Lord Lindsey Buckingham-Palace" under the illustration?

What, you have a better caption?

He must be an illustrator. Weird name, though, eh?

Matt should work the bee-pug into the new Mefi design somehow. If ever there was an image that perfectly represents the site...

Metafilter: a "bottomless, unquenchable curiosity about the world."

That sounds about right.

In the interest of bandwidth efficiency and other things, here's TPS's scan straightened, resized, and streamlined (it's about 1/10 the filesize of the original).

The article doesn't mention the $5 part. So...I suppose the deluge relies on how bottomless and unquenchable Village Voice reader's curiosity is.

I don't know about you, but I've put on a tuxedo to make a proper impression when they show up. And could we not talk about... you know... that stuff... for the next few days? Just for appearance's sake.

Or just whisper it, using code words. "I totally disagree with what User X said about pomegranates, and I think he's a quincunx!"
