And all 3 of these people mention the same online eyeglass shop in their posts... February 21, 2006 10:27 PM   Subscribe

How common is the practice of putting a space before a period/question mark ? Because the person who posted this question did it, as did two people in this thread.

And all 3 of these people mention the same online eyeglass shop in their posts...

I thought the whole point of creating multiple fake identities in public forums was to set yourself up as a trusted contributor first, then hawk your wares. Each of the three users referenced above (1, 2, 3) has but a single post in their history.

And they've each posted once. Good catch.

So that's $15 for Matt... do you think they'll buy more to keep spamming? Odd that they've all posted basically the same one thing but the accounts were created and comments posted on different days.

Why do they hate Metafilter?

I liked how the one guy (golven) linked to optical4less again, when it was already linked in the immediately previous post.

I do think this MeTa is too early though... I was hoping to see ropher respond back with "Yes, they are very trustable!" while golven replies with, "Absolutely! Many ppl recommend their fine value and service!"

I've used metafilter.com a couple times they are the best online blog community so far .
Only $5 an account and so easy to have fun on . Many ppl agree !

so... we close the memberships now, yes?

First off, this was fantastic detectivising. But before the accounts get banned & the links get deleted, can anyone explain why golven is using Profixy to link to his shitty spammer eyeglass site? I'm thinking it's because he's doing this from China and he's behind some gov't firewall. That would explain the weird, stilted English...

This prompts the question (heh) of how often these miscreants go unnoticed.

Mother. fuckers.

Hey, maybe they just make the same mistakes because they suffer from the same oracular ailment which can only be corrected by the good folks at optical4less, and...

Aw, screw it. Crucify them/him!

Stop polluting the older thread. It seems legitimate; and while I'm sure Matt will delete the spam comments, he'll probably leave the rest of it intact. Let's keep the jokes here and in the sure-to-be-deleted AskMe, and minimize the cleanup elsewhere.

My mother does that too, but I'm pretty sure none of those people are her.

so... we close the memberships now, yes?

Aye. Bed it down, let us compost a bit. Reopen later, once equilibrium has been re-established. My two bits.

cribcage Wise. I shouldn't have made the posts. In my own defense, I blame the martini.

golven has been busy for quite [scroll down to 27 Sep 2003] some time.

So now I look pretty dumb. The glasses were OK but now they have lost a customer and someone who was genuinely recommending them. Pretty much a text book case of how spamming is meant to ruin your reputation.

Hmm. Not too long ago there was another "question" about eyeglasses that was deleted because it was just a list of online retailers and a brief summary of their pros/cons. Now I'm dying to know who posted it, and which retailer was at the top of that list.

What an amateur spam job. A real pro would have seamlessly integrated his Optics4less plugs into the normal daily MeFi discussions:

"Not see ? Well then, it almost criminal to deny you need Optics4less . Speech may not be free, but with price like these Optics4less come close !"

It's not unusual to have a non-breaking space before a full-stop or comma - the French do it, for a start. It's not normal in English.

altolinguistic: they do? I've never seen that before.

It is a spammer from opitcals4less that posted a spammy question a few months ago that was removed. I've removed all the comments and locked the accounts. Thanks for catching this, I had banned their account a couple months ago when it first came up.
