Impersonation and craziness led to thread deletion June 24, 2000 5:36 PM Subscribe
The crazy post from last week about the narcissism site has been removed. Apparently, in the spirited discussion that followed, there were people being impersonated and connected with incriminating events that may or may not have happened.
Since I, as site owner, control the data and have no connection to anyone associated with the sites mentioned in the story, I decided it was better to remove it.

I stand by your decision, Matt. It showed a lot of us at our ugliest. From what I understand, there was a comment in there that really hurt another member here too.
And it seems like Mr. Kester wants to fit in and be a part of MetaFilter, I'm cool with that. Who needs that thing to come up and embarrass him?
Of course I have a million links to that thread in my site, but that cool.
Speaking of cool, Matt... when's the last time I said you were one of the coolest mofo's I know? :0)

ZachsMind: you didn't miss anything. Murry Kester posts a link to a whiny rant (on his own site) about his ex-wife; some people *cough*Eric*cough* take the bait and debate him; Kester e-mails his mailing list to defend his honor; nasty things are said; strange things happen.
Matt blows the whole thing up.

Well I took the bait too. Guess it's irrelevant now. Water under the bridge.

You can't afford me, bub. :P
I'm incorporating on my site the ability to move posts (and threads) to a "flame board" and let them run themselves out without interfering with the rest of the site, but without deleting them outright and going down that road. Just a thought, as I realize that would, strictly speaking, leave an almost comment-free Metafilter...

Or send them to "takeitoffline.com"
