UserAgent string checking for helper buttons. June 20, 2006 6:22 PM Subscribe
Matt: Can you disable checking the UA for determining if the little link/bold/em helper buttons show up by the posting box? Just so you know, it works fine with Opera when I have the user agent masked as IE.

is it? what's so wrong about this request? posted by shmegegge at 6:47 PM on June 20, 2006

scratch the last part.
as IE: 'Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; en) Opera 8.54'
as Opera: 'Opera/8.54 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)' posted by bigmusic at 6:52 PM on June 20, 2006
I agree with this request. Everything works great when my Opera claims to be Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X; en) Opera 9.00 but not when it's honestly admitting to being Opera/9.00 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X; U; en) posted by evariste at 8:55 PM on June 20, 2006
By the way, bigmusic-Opera 9 came out today :-) posted by evariste at 9:03 PM on June 20, 2006
shmegegge: I think mischief was referring to the unusual number of MetaTalk threads today, not about this request specifically.
Anyway, yeah, it's a good idea. posted by danb at 9:07 PM on June 20, 2006
