Favorited? No, I didn'ted. August 22, 2006 4:01 AM   Subscribe

"You already made this a favorite." Well, no, I didn't. Several other people seem to have done so, but I can't make the FPP a favorite. I can fave the comments. This has happened before.

When I look at your profile, it seems that you have, in fact, saved that as a favourite.

Try doing a force refresh (ctrl + f5) on your favourites page, it ought to show up there.

Are you running any weird extensions on firefox? You seem to consistently have this problem (you've emailed me before about it right?) and I think you're the only one. Perhaps it's something about the way the refresh is done.

Yup, it's there now. Strange. I guess I'll wait a day before asking about this if it happens again.

Matt, I do have some extensions, but I'm not on the computer where the problem happened. When I get back there, I'll post a list, or email it.

This happens to me too, though it's a cosmetic issue.

The problem is the server sends a
Refresh: 0; URL=
header along with the page, which to opera at least means it just keeps reloading the page. The first time it tells you that it's added the favourite, but you don't get the chance to see this as the page is immediately reloaded, it tries to add the favourite again and tells you it's already there. It keeps reloading this page in opera, though possibly firefox gives up after a certain number of reloads.

The problem, as I've noticed it, is this: I add a thread to my favorites. The page reloads. The favorite count has not increased, and when I show the users who have made the post a favorite, my name is not there. Doesn't matter if I refresh. But then when I go look at my favorites, the post is in fact there.

Last time we went through this I was the one complaining, and we figured out that the problem was that the server actually sends a
Refresh: 0; URL=[the HTTP referer]
which should send you back to the page you came from, unless you have referers turned off.

(I thought Matt had fixed it so that it didn't add the Refresh if there was no referer, though.)

I've got this problem too though I just don't sweat it, I know the favourite has been recorded even if it doesn't show it in the thread.

It's attitudes like yours that are leading to the Downfall of Western Civilization®. I hope you're satisfied.

Actually, I'm just glad I'm not the only one.

I occasionally have an experience like the one agropyron describes.

Ah yes, that sounds very likely, I do indeed have referers switched off.

Given that you have a comment ID or post ID on the flag/favourite page though, it should be possible to generate the URL from that, which would be a little more rubust than assuming a referer. But as I said, flagging and favouriting still works, so it's not a big deal.
