Request for RSS feed for Popular Favorites. October 21, 2006 12:17 AM Subscribe
I love the new tabbed layout, but is it possible to get an RSS feed only for the "Popular Favorites" tab on MeFi and on Ask MeFi ?
For those interested, I created this feed for the Popular Favorites page. Works pretty well.

This is sweet. I like it.

About those tabs, this seems like a bug: if I go into Popular Favorites, pick a post, click on the comments, then on IE back button, I'm back on front page, rather than the popular favorites list.

The tab layout is utterly broken in my Opera.
Matt, do I need to clear cookies? Does JS need to be enabled?

I'm downloading Opera to see what's up.
And yeah, beagle, that's a back button ajax artifact that isn't easy to program around.

I cleared cookies, but the only change is that the tabs moved from top-left to top-right.

Shift-reload. I just downloaded Opera 9 for OSX and everything looks perfect, exactly as they do in firefox. I changed the CSS for all sites earlier today (drastically so), so I bet cached CSS is messing it up for you.

Nice new pony, mathowie. Shiny. Cute. Housebroken. Useful. Obvious. Lightweight. Adorable. AskMe enhancing. And at $5 for AYCE, still the Best Internet value, EVAH.
Thanks.

Sure would be nice if the site set a cookie so the tabs remembered the way I last left them.

That seems to work, Matt.
Unfortunately, http://www.metafilter.com/index.cfm?sortby=mycommentedthreads seems to be disabled. The sad thing is there is, as far as I can tell, no functional equivalent being offered.
The key advantages to the sortby=mycommentedthreads offered:compact display refreshes one's memory of what the original topic was quickly open threads with new messages in new tabs by using shift-click threads open at the first message I have not read threads open to show all new messages, not just the last ten
The "My Comments" page sucks balls. It has none of the advantages of sortby=mycommentedthreads. It is a very verbose display, giving me far, far more information than I need at that point; it requires a shedload of scrolling; it is more focused on my last posted message instead of the first message new to me.
sortyby=mycommentedthreads may not have been the best design from a programmer's point of view, but it was by far the better design from a usability point of view.

Is there a reason why I am suddenly only able to view the main MetaTalk page, but neither Metafilter nor AskMetafilter? This is somewhat coincidental with the arrival of the new tabs, but I was able to view the pages, with tabs, the first day of tabness.
Symptoms: lots of blue or green, header (including tabs) and footer about an inch under it. No posts. Sidebar momentarily visible on page load, then it vanishes and the footer appears.
MetaTalk and direct links to comment threads work fine.
(I'm using Safari 1.2.2)

I think it's just that MeFi is up and down at random today. I wasn't working for me, and then it was, and now I'm not sure...
