AskMe RSS Problem November 26, 2006 9:20 AM Subscribe
For some reason the Ask Metafilter RSS feed quit working for me a few days ago. I'm reading it through Bloglines and the last post which shows up is from November 22, 2006 at 6:54am. Is anyone else seeing this issue?
This post wouldn't be in the AskMe RSS feed. If it is, you have other problems, duffell.

Same here. The bloglines error screen (the plumber) was showing up a lot last weekend. Since then, neither my AskMe or 43Folders feed has recovered.
Can anyone recommend a web-based reader that doesn't choke on the AskMe feed every few days or weeks?

google reader has been picking up posts, albeit belatedly (which was the subject of a previous bug).
why is it so hard for people to write a working web reader?

Same issue, using Bloglines. The other feeds (MetaFilter, MetaTalk, Metafilter Projects) are working fine.

I'm not certain that it's the fault of the reader software; the AskMe feed has been screwy in both Bloglines and Google Reader for ages, yet no other feed causes any problems.
I'm convinced that the problem lies with either the feed format or the Mefi server.

I think it's a little of both. i've never had a problem with RSS clients picking up the AskMe Feed. As I've said before, I suspect some of the problem has to do with the way web feed readers cache feeds (so they're not continually picking up a feed that a thousand people are subscribed to) and the way the AskMe feed is often down.
I think the "no other feed does it" is a red herring .. I mean, it *seems* like the ask me feed is always screwed to me, but then again, I only follow like 10 feeds. I'm sure there's other ones that GR and BL can't follow properly. GR, for example, doesn't seem to like my Ebay feeds half the time.

I noticed that the Ask Metafilter and 43 Folders feeds are both working tonight.
