A nice gesture DNAB, but in the interests of full reciprocity I feel I should apologize to you in return. I've been siphoning gas out of your tank for weeks now. And you know how your chair at work was set to the wrong hight? Yeah, that was me as well. Also, that 'dog crap' that keeps appearing on your front yard that you have been blaming your neighbors golden retriever for? Sorry about that as well, the dog is blameless. I am not. And then there was the time that I had you falsely arrested for transporting illegal narcotics, and after they held you for a couple of days, it turned out that the "drugs" you were in possession of were actually just a couple of sandwiches and a thermos full of coffee. Oh yeah, that tattoo on your back, the one that says "Dickless Wonder!", er yeah. I did that when you were heavily medicated and unconscious from the beating you took when you were in jail.

What I'm saying is that we were both in the wrong and I'll accept your apology if you accept mine.

Nah, it's easy to get upset at what you read, regardless of how neglected or cared for one's life is. The danger signal is when you stay upset even after you've left the computer.

Not that dirtynumbangelboy has been particularly malicious. He hasn't been particularly insulting and I don't recall him belittling anyone or calling anyone names. He has been little more than bad tempered in my experience. A harsh tone, a bad mood count for less than an open insult in my book. Dirtynumbangelboy, I accept your apology and I would also like to apologize.

Without looking through my posting history I'd like to imagine that there was a time when you and I would attack the same issues with identical ferocity - sort of a lefty duo that would stun our opponents with our sheer awesomeness. In fact, I imagined you to look a little bit like my friend Brian (who cuts a fine figure) and I always looked forward to your comments because of how much I looked up to you. And I was actually hurt when we all started fighting last week. When I was drunkenly scribing my attacks I felt like I was harpooning a close friend. I don't know if I actually scribed any attacks but I felt like I almost did. Maybe I did. I drink a lot.
Anyway, I think you have a fantastic character and if anybody asked me to list a few of the people I've met through the internet (as silly as that sounds) I would include you on that list. I've learned a great many things from you and you add a very positive energy to this site. I hope that you decide to continue hanging out here.

I want to buy you a drink right now so bad but I don't even know where you are.

Take it easy, you rock.

Wonder twin lefty powers... ACTIVATE!

*fists touch*

Form of anti-corporate rhetoric.

Shape of a minority-centric program which will be ultimately ineffectual.

Yeah, I don't disagree, but in my weekend-relaxing-not-caring-about-how-much-I-hate-my-job-and-having-a-drink state, I found the whole idea very amusing.

AZ3: you are an inarticulate monster, and if we ever cross paths, I will end you with bullet. I know your lust for flesh is insatiable and I forgive you that. But you need to be put down.

AZ original; you are clever. And I admire your moxie. But I have reason to believe that you might have some kind of nepotism to the two fake Astro Zombies that plague our happy home. And were I to find some sort of connection, it would behoove me to grab a shotgun and/ or chainsaw to deal with the mess that you have introduced here.

We keep dancing around this, but at some point we will have to deal with the fact that you are undead, and I can't tolerate that.

You may be wittier and more verbose than I, but a time will come when that might not be enough. And at that point, we will find out if I am the Hero that finally purges you from this site, or the comic relief that dies badly at your hands.

And if films have taught me anything, you are screwed in the short term. (though, I am the first to admit, in the long term, you might take everyone.) But I like those odds.

I just wanted to clarify, no, I am not in any mortal danger. I have a slight sniffle, but I don't think it's fatal. UNLESS IT'S ANTHRAX OMG.

I feel honoured and privileged to be part of such a vibrant community, populated almost exclusively by such intelligent and well-meaning people. My behaviour lately has not been up to the standard which this community deserves, and you have all collectively and individually shown me by example why it is so deserved.

Metafilter is a rare, rare thing online: a community with open membership that hasn't--nor, I think, will ever--degenerated into a bunch of morons and flames and a signal:noise ratio approaching infinity. A group of wildly disparate people sharing their interests and opinions, for no more reason than "Hey, wow, this is damn interesting, why don't you take a look as well?"

More to the point, Metafilter really does seem to be a community. I've lost track of how many times I have seen genuine and compassionate offers of help, especially over on the Green. The simple fact that the Green exists, and hasn't gotten bogged down with useless 'answers', is a testament to the thousands of people who contribute here every day.

The only community I know of online that I can possibly compare to MeFi is the Callahans constellation. And while I'm quite certain that there are many points of intersection between alt.c/#c and MeFi, I would much rather hang out with a group of MeFites than Callahanians. (Barring, of course, those few Callahanians I love and adore as my chosen family).

Thank you, all. I have been humbled by your generosity. I'm going to try much harder, in the words of Bette Midler, to deserve you. I didn't want you to see me like this.

Cheers.

Don't change a thing, dnab — stay dirty, numb, and toroidal.

You must have found the new cheese shop up the street from Tinto. That place could seriously mellow you out.

And constipate you, if taken to excess.

Actually, I think you mean a signal:noise ratio approaching 1.

What?

I haven't actually been there yet, but I do love Tinto. Their breakfasts are to die for.

So can I still put dibs on your Train Set?
I mean, it's a pretty cool Train Set.
Well then can I dib on your "Firefly" Special Edition?
You DO have a pretty bad cough.
