inline youtube keeps going away? October 24, 2007 6:42 PM Subscribe
Why is it that i keep losing my settings for in-line youtube? It seems like whenever i change my change anything in my profile, it works, and then a few days later, the embedded youtube links are gone again. Is this a known bug or what?
I check from a bunch of different computers-- is that stored in a cookie and not server side?

Set this option and it becomes all too clear how youboob has ruined the front page.

This has happening to me too! They're displayed for a day or so and then they disappear.

Yeah, it's a cookie setting, so if one of your machines doesn't have the cookie, it doesn't display it.

Ditto. I always chalked it up to you guys working on things. Sometimes they show, sometimes they don't. The Justice/Kimmel YT logo wasn't there earlier, it is now. Never thought much of it until I read this.

Yep me too. YT prefs disappear after a day or so. I have the opt-in checked right now in prefs but they aren't embedded. I like when the little YT icons show up so I know which links not to click on.

I'm currently logged in and the youtube box is checked. Is there any way to manually acquire said cookie to enable this?

while we're at it, whether the inline playing works for me on any given occasion seems completely arbitrary. initially you said that clearing the cache helps, matt, but i've found that there's no reliable predictor of whether it will work. it appears to me to be random.
as an example, today i tried that justice link and it worked on the front page. then i tried that biz markie link, and it didn't work on the front page. going inside the thread, the biz link worked, but then the second link in that post did not.
etc.
any ideas about that?

I have this issue as well but I always access MeFi from the same computer and to my knowledge the cookies have not been recently cleared.

Another YouTube icon issue is that they aren't displayed for YT links in the 'More Inside'.

Yeah, haven't really seen in inline Youtubery in ages. I thought you dumped it as a feature actually.

This kind of thing is actually a feature for me, as I can set plaintext theme with no inlining at work and regular style at home, and once the cookies are baked, I'm good to go.

(which is to say, I've never noticed a problem with disappearing prefs, though it seems others have for some reason, which is odd, given that they're (as far as I know) cookie-based)

if my you tube inlines disappear, will the images in my profile re-appear?
