To all the people who have suggested Hendrick's gin with cucumber - thank you. It really is amazing.
More to the point, it is interesting to me that a website, or community, can have a profound effect on one's life. A drink is something of a deep, personal choice and commitment, not to be changed on whim. And yet here it has been changed.
My guess is others may have had a profound shift in thinking or experience because of this smattering of blue and green. If so, I salute you, with fresh cucumber in hand.

I didn't like gin at all until Ambrosia Voyeur and contraption gave me a bottle of Hendrick's. Everything else that claimed to be gin tasted like a bottle of Pine Sol, or worse.
During which I also discovered that Hendrick's tastes really good in green tea. It's like drinking a pine forest with an alpine meadow in it.

That was the first drink I had at the NYC Mefi Meetup we crashed a few weeks back. Careful, they're dangerous. I still am not clear on what the hell I did that night.

Huh? Would I need to be an alcoholic to understand this? A drink is something cool you put in your body to refresh it, and, as long as it tastes good, who gives a fuck?

Thanks for posting this. I haven't had a nice G&T in way too long. Not to mention that you are like the 10th person to recommend Hendrick's to me. I'll be stopping at BevMo tonight to pick some up and I suggest you all do the same.

It is an excellent gin, though I prefer Plymouth myself for martinis.
Try your Hendrick's/cucumber martini with an added garnish of a very thin slice of key lime in addition to the cucumber. Cheers!

I don't know that I hold with using Hendrick's for g&ts, though, since the t drowns out all the lovely cucumbery goodness of Hendrick's. But it's all good.

The problem with Hendrick's is that it doesn't actually taste like gin. The floral cucumberiness makes it good for adding some much needed oomph to a jug of Pimm's, though.
And, while I'm a fan of a well-made G&T, the truly great gin drink is a very, very cold pink gin. Plymouth, bitters out.

Well, I like Hendrick's best with Fever Tree Tonic Water. It has a much cleaner flavor than the Schweppes crap. Ramos Gin Fizzes are my new favorite decadent gin drink, but when feeling extra lazy, a Tom Collins is quite nice too.

But I'll be trying this other one absolutely.

Make sure you try it neat, too. Not chilled. Maybe ice if you must. If you like that whole "OMG green! flowers? wtf?" taste (like green teas and such, lemongrass) it's really complex and interesting.

For the record, that was part of this which is what happens when a guy switches from booze to GHB.

Hendrick's Bloody Mary. Just sayin'...cukes, tomatoes, use a pickle instead of a celery stick.
If you live in the limited area where they have distribution, Bluecoat (the opposite of redcoat) but it's a whole different gin.

GHB, really? I know alot of people enjoy it, but enough to give up booze? Or are we talking different GHBs?
Also, Hendrick's. Duly noted. I'm usually a Beefeater Gimlet man, myself, when there's no scotch to be had, but floral gin and cucumber sounds interesting enough to try.

My good man, I do believe you mean Jenever (or Genever). The Dutch invented the stuff and Amsterdam being a port city were foolish enough to serve a Limey in town for the World Whore Faire. The Reds took a liking to it and tried their hand at brewing some. They diminished the name and flavor to topical anesthetic called Gin.
Hendrinks first came to my attention in an advertisement in the New Yorker. Its goes great with tonic water, arugula with pecans and being smug.

Hendrick's is indeed deliciouso. Some dude at a Scottish pub in STL (Dressel's for the record) introduced me to it several years back. While I love me a Sapphire and tonic, Hendrick's is something else entirely. Might have to make a trip to the liquor store soon to pick up a bottle.

Whoa, are you serious? I've seen more people have convulsions and/or get taken away in ambulances after taking GHB than any other intoxicant. Plus, it tastes like I imagine tea made from sweaty gym socks must taste. He gave up delicious booze for that?
Gah, I need some gin just to rinse the memory of the taste of that awful swill out of my mouth.

I'll mention this here and then never again.
I love Hendrick's with cucumber. A few years ago I thought I could possibly impress a certain young woman with said concoction. I attended to the grocer's, post haste. I purchased a bottle of gin, a cucumber, and a box of condoms.
My compatriots in the checkout line were nonplussed, to say the least.

No. The issue with GHB is that the dosage/response curve is incredibly steep, and incredibly varied based on a whole bunch of factors. Which makes it impossible to reliably determine a 'proper' does for intoxication (as opposed to a proper dose for anaesthesia, which is easier, but GHB is generally not used for that anymore). Check out Erowid for more info.
Bottom line, GHB is a stupid fucking drug. Have a couple drinks, it feels the same.
Now, on to the Hendrickization of the world... it is not a major life-changing committment to buy a bottle. It is, rather, an exercise in bitter disappointment when you realize how quickly the bottle empties due to the deliciousness of its contents and then the bloody LCBO is closed, for fuck's sake, and you're stuck at a friend's apartment drinking shite vodka and watching full seasons of House on DVD.
Or so I've heard.
