But, it's my FAVORITE! October 28, 2008 11:47 AM   Subscribe

I can't seem to favorite comments or posts. I've tried to fave a couple of things today, and instead, it bounces me back up to the top of the page. When I refreshed the page, it seemed to hang on scripts.metafilter, and I briefly timed out when I logged out and logged back in.

I'm using Firefox, and don't think I've updated anything since the last security patch, so theoretically nothing on my end should be different from yesterday, except that now I cannot give my textual approval. (I weep for those unapproved comments...how sad and lonely they must feel...)

It sounds like you have JavaScript disabled. Do you have the noscript extension, or some extension that might be blocking JavaScript?

No, I've got javascript enabled, although I've always had a lot of the advanced functions disabled. (Resizing windows, removing menus, that sort of thing). I used to run noscript, but it was more hassle than it was worth for a standard non-secure box.

Nope, this is pretty much a vanilla Firefox 3.03 install with only delicious and noflash extensions.

That said, I'm willing to grant that it's probably something silly on my end. Especially if I'm the only one experiencing it. But I do love the "fave" feature, so any suggestions are gratefully accepted.

No, I had the same sort of thing happen to me some time within the last couple of weeks. Firefox on a mac, basic install, no extensions added on, javascript enabled, etc. The problem resolved itself while I was at work.

I have what may be a related problem. I've made a number of insightful, thoughtful and hilarious posts recently that have remained unfavorited by many users. Firefox 3 on Linux.

See, now it works. Apparently, I just need Jess to remind me what I was supposed to be doing. Thanks Jess!

From the sound of it, your browser wasn't able to load the .js file that contains the javascript that performs that function. Likely it was a transient glitch, but if it goes on then the thing to do would be to find out why the script file doesn't load.

Have you cleared your cache & rebooted?

Will that keep the giant, hideous multiheaded Jessamattex away long enough for a smoke break and a couple of idle laps around the cube farm?

Just xload the .js file to the 9000 baud parity bit stack overflow buffer skype socket and you're good to go.

Nah, you've gotta clear the cache bean and set all variables to the string "YYYNNYNYYN". Also reload the class objects into the object class.

You're pacing as you intently study some papers? That's my move!

No, wait, I got that from somewhere else...

You know, I never watched Seinfeld because it was stupid*. But you do realize they stole that bit about the papers and walking around from real life, right?

Half of the white collar workforce in America is doing it right now. The other half is out to lunch or in the bathroom.

*Irredeemably, unapologetically stupid by design. A show that ran for 9 seasons that centered around the intentionally blissfully ignorant blatherings of an entire tribe of semi-literate urban semi-morons. It was a volcano, an earthquake, an epidemic of wanton idiocy and conformity. Even the Kramer was essentially a straight-man, his eccentricities tame, calculated and otherwise shockingly normal if compared to anyone other than the plain brown cardstock of the rest of the cast.

The best thing to come out of the whole thing was the Festivus pole. Which is pretty stupid, especially considering you can actually buy one, ruining the commentary on crass commercialism during the holidays.

To begin... To begin... How to start?

I'm hungry. I should get coffee. Coffee would help me think.

Maybe I should write something first, then reward myself with coffee. Coffee and a muffin. So I need to establish the themes.

Maybe a banana nut. That's a good muffin.

I've experienced a similar problem as DU, except with mine, many of my best comments seem to show up as having been written by Astro Zombie and Miko and robocop is bleeding. It's really weird, and I'm glad they are getting all my favorites and everything, but in the interests of balance, if you see anything good written by anyone else, just assume that I actually did it and my system attributed it incorrectly.

So, a few nights ago I had a dream that someone did an FPP about Telstar, the upcoming Joe Meek biopic.

Cortex started posting a bunch of animated GIFs of the monkey from The Jungle Book dancing. Like, 10 or 11 comments in a row, all with different GIFs of the monkey doing different dances. He'd also hacked the system so that the number of favorites under his comments was blinking.

I was about to post an angry comment saying that he didn't understand what the post was about. And then I woke up.

Jessamattex Corporation

I believe the title of the legal entity is Jessamattex Corporation, PPB.
posted by DarlingBri at 4:57 PM on October 28, 2008

Doesn't PPB stand for Party Political Broadcast, comrade? Or is it Pardon and Parole Board?
posted by lukemeister at 6:02 PM on October 28, 2008

No, silly, it stands for Plus PB. Everyone always forgets poor pb!
posted by DarlingBri at 7:47 PM on October 28, 2008
