fpps in recent activity March 2, 2009 9:10 PM   Subscribe

Why don't your own FPPs show up in 'recent activity' unless you've also commented in them?

...because it makes the monster SQL query easier to not show it.

There's a "My Posts" tab on the upper left that shows what you want. Someday, maybe we'll be slick like Flickr and combine them all into a single super duper page of all activity, but for now there are tabs for each view of the data.

Huh, you know, I never noticed those tabs were even there.

Me either. I'm glad you asked, empath, because I'm glad I learned that.

I am commenting in this thread so as to keep track of its further activity.
Nothing to see here. Carry on.

There's a great deal of my recent activity that I'm much happier to remain in denial about, so I support the status quo here.

You can mark the thread as a favorite, and use the my favorites tab in recent activity as well (which would reduce the noise)

You can remove stuff from recent activity if you don't care any more. It does a cool ajaxy fade thing. I do it quite often.

Marking your own stuff as a favorite seems pretty lame, though.

What if you have a lot of noise favorites in your My Favorites?

Yo, dawg, we heard.. Oh fuck it I can't.

There's a tab marked "My Posts" so you can follow stuff you've posted on any of the sub-sites.

What are these "own FPPs" you're talking about? Has Matt rolled out some new feature that allows you to randomly generate your own posts to snark on when you've already snarked out all the existing snarkfests? I mean posts?

You don't have one of these?

Just how many of y'all use favorites just to be able to find them later? I wonder if I'm in the minority for not viewing favorites as a bookmarking tool but instead as a tip of the hat or a standing ovation for a post/comment. Viewing a post later.. hell that's what my 58 firefox tabs are for! Shift click!

I'm among those who uses them to find stuff later. I think of it kind of like a big ol' bag. If I liked it, I favorited it, so I know it's in the bag. When I go looking for it I look in the bag.

There's probably a better way to do this. I'm not always so elegant about my use of website capabilities.

I also favorite as a way of saying "hahaha" or "right on." But that doesn't harm the searchability of the stuff in the bag.

The reason I usually favorite posts is so that activity will show up in the My Favorites tab without me having to post a throwaway comment in the thread.

I've given up auto-favouriting for lent, though.
