Tiny pony filter: How about basic html in mefimail?

Pretty please!

That pony isn't that tiny.

They shoot horses, don't they?

Mathowie said MeFiMail doesn't have HTML for security reasons. The only thing I would really like is some sort of link feature so that I don't have to put big ugly URLs in the message body.

It seems like HTML (even just individual tags) is a lot more advanced than just basic quoting, which already won't ever happen.

Ah, I missed the previous thread. Thanks.

Yeah MeMail is supposed to be a really basic messaging system. The more we make it like real mail, the more people would want other email features. Our general feeling is that if you're needing/wanting to use HTML [more than a hyperlinkied link] just email the person.

Ok, looks like I can close this one up.

soooo unemployed....

You can pay me in giftcards like you used to do for jessamyn before that guy got all indignant about it that one time. If he says anything, I'll punch him in the face over the internet.

If you're worried about large URL sizes, you could also use something like TinyURL to shrink it.

I need to reconsider my position of hiding my gold inside my cats and my jewels inside my cheese, which I then also hide inside the cats.

I thought meatbomb was the ninja moderator. When did Eideteker take the position?
posted by yhbc at 7:36 AM on March 31, 2009

I swiped it from him in a lucid dream.

The student kills the master, and ever onward.

Reincarnation makes the whole process a lot more like Counter-Strike, though.

TinyURL made more sense before the widespread use of browser exploits and rick rolling. These days it seems like bad etiquette to send someone a TinyURL link.

If you're worried about your friends exploiting and/or rick rolling you via TinyURL then you, sir, need new friends.

tinyURL has a preview feature these days.

And anyway, Rick Rolling is so 2007 anyway that getting Rick Rolled is actually rather charming.

Though that may be because I actually enoy the song. YMMV.

We auto-convert them to clickable links, so it's really no big deal.

No big deal? NO BIG DEAL???

Yeah, you're probably right.

I dunno. HTML seems pretty unnecessary, but quoting would be real nice. As it is, I feel like replying to a MeMail is kinda discontinuous.

Aw, just let the little guy have his fun, it's entirely harmless and kind of cute seeing him pretend to be the pretend mod.

Well if you're not going to give us HTML, at least make memail monospaced so I can send people cheeses

In lieu of quoting, maybe the facebook scheme would appeal? There, the messages appear in a column, with the newest at the bottom.

There is a preview function that works well.

While full HTML support is a bit overkill, I do second burnmp3's wish for hyperlinks. The existing setup works so-so, but it is inelegant to have to interrupt or re-write your message to insert a URL on its own line, when it could just be a hyperlink embedded in the text itself.* It's doubly frustrating when you write out a missive with links, and then have to redo the whole thing when it rejects the markup.

* I've tried using footnotes, too, but that's just plain silly, amirite?

But if you already know it doesn't accept html tags, how big of a deal is it?

Hi bob, this website (http://metafilter.com) rocks my face off.

At lunch today? My husband asked the lady at KFC to turn on some music because it was too quiet and she did it and he, like, rick rolled himself and totally didn't even know what was happening.
