Regarding Heidi, previously seen on the blue as the woman who wrote an amazingly brave account of what it's like to weigh 530lbs...
Heidi ended up having gastric bypass surgery about a year ago and continues to tell her story as she changes many habits and turns her life around. Her blog contains some really remarkable posts: she shares parts of her life (not to mention photos of her body) that most people would keep hidden. There's definitely some "best of the web" posts mingled among the everyday bloggy stuff.
Heidi's had a recent family tragedy; her abusive father committed suicide a few days ago, and she was the one to discover his body. Now Heidi, who's clinically depressed and has various health problems, and her mother, who's also depressed and physically disabled, are flat broke and traumatized. I figure these poor women could really use a break.
Having previously peeked into her life, I figured it was time to pay the piper; and luckily she's put up a donation link. I realized that there may be some of you who, like me, were fascinated by her story, and if so, some of you might also be interested in sending her a small donation to help cover the family's funeral and moving expenses. If so, here's the link to her PayPal.
(BTW, I don't know Heidi at all- we've never even exchanged an email. I only discovered her from the post I linked above, and have followed her blog with interest for a few months. I just figure someone who overcame so much shame and stigma to share this kind of story, especially for free on the interweb, might be karmically due for a little tip in the jar when the shit hits the fan. I'm not at all trying to pressure, guilt, or suggest what any other Mefites "should" do; I just thought I'd share the info in case it could help her somehow. Cheers.)
