I'd just like to take a moment to misuse MetaTalk and draw your attention to this lame gawker list type post revealing the origin of MetaFilters own Astro Zombie.

I always pictured a more dashing sort of Astro Zombie. Sort of Baron Samedi with a bubble helmet on.

The Astro Zombie in that article doesn't look at all the sort of person to play the ukulele.

ffffffffuck, look at that dapper jacket. Dashing is the only word for it.

I always wondered if Astro Zombie named himself after the Misfits song or the movies that the song was calling back to.

It's all RetCon. We have always been at war with AstroZombie.

It is a nice jacket, it's true.

It's rather Patrick McGoohan circa The Prisoner, and therefore quite groovy.

"SEE BRUTAL MUTANTS MENACE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS"

Looks like the origin of MetaTalk, too...

So when do I get a MetaTalk thread about my origin or does io9 have to do it first? Don't be surprised if something 'goes off' at Gawker Media offices some night at Midnight... yeah, that's the ticket, that's the dollar-off coupon, that's the way, uh huh, uh huh, I like it! I'll probably get a mention at both HuffPo and Cracked for that... oh yeah, going viral, memes for me...

But... but... it's right in his profile: "Astro Zombies is a dreadful, yet irresistible, horror film by St. Paul native Ted V. Mikels. "

If I remember correctly, and I seldom do, Astro Zombie said he got his name from a friend's movie. Even if I'm wrong that's how I choose to remember it.

Let me mention that, as cult filmmakers go, Ted Mikels seems to be extraordinarily generous with his time; at least, he has been with me. I own, oh, perhaps 14 of his films, and inevitably I have questions about them. He has a Web page, so I just shoot him an email, and he generally responds in depth within a day or two.

... also in Glenn's defense, it should be noted the song is about the movie. Glenn Danzig circa 1975-1983 was an obessive and inventive partisan of American horror kitsch and a major popularizer of the material.

BTW, a long time ago searching for Astro Zombie led me down the rabbit hole to Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. Finally one of my favorite driving songs, Tura Satana by Babasonicos, made sense. If I could choose my username again it would be Dirt Between the Toes of Tura Satana.

Tura Satana has one of my favorite lines in Faster Pussycat. A gas station attendent is ogling her bosoms and rambling on about traveling. "See America first!" he declares.

"You won't find it down there, Columbus," she snaps back.
