Anyone up for an Indianapolis/Central Indiana meetup?

It's been awhile, and I, for one, need to get the heck out of the house. Anyone else with cabin fever? I'd like to try another location besides Broadripple, it might bring different people out of the woodwork.

Sure! If this ends up being on while I'm around, I'm in. Unfortunately, the rest of February doesn't look good for me (especially weekends). Do this in March, and we have a deal. Anywhere in Indy is fine with me.

Sounds great. I still owe everyone drinks from the 10 year reunion meetup money so the first $100 is on me.

Too short notice, probably, but I'll be in town this weekend. I could do Saturday or, better, Sunday night. Yeah, I know, it's that Other Holiday, but my wife is left behind in CT so I'm in denial.

I like ocha-no-mizu's suggestion of doing it in March—that works better for me too. I'm currently free most weekends in March except possibly Mar. 20-21.

*crickets*

I am out of town the first and second weekends in March, DevilsAdvocate is gone the third weekend. How does March 26th or 27th sound? Downtown or somewhere more exotic? I went to this crazy cash only karaoke bar on the south side a few weeks ago.

These Premises Are Alarmed: I could do something downtown tomorrow if you are game. Anybody else?

I'm down for a late March thing - How does the 27th sound? Say about 6 or7 PM. Let's see if we can find a suitable venue.

These Premises Are Alarmed: I can do something Sunday afternoon, probably.

March 27 works fine by me.

I don't know any of you yet, and I'm looking forward to meeting y'all! I think I can make the 27th, though I might be late. I'd definitely prefer no further north than downtown.

The 27th is also good for me.

Anything happening downtown today? Maybe this is a bit last minute, but it turns out I'm free today. Sunday afternoon, probably not.

The 27th is great for me too.

Anyone interested in Bloomington?? Anyone???

I am Indy-challenged, even with a navigator and excellent mappage.
posted by CitizenD at 10:52 AM on February 14, 2010

I'd say the 27th is the consensus date... Now let's pick a venue. I know some reasonable priced restaurants here and there, so what sort of food floats your collective boats?
posted by pjern at 5:41 PM on February 14, 2010

I'm not picky. (Translation: I'll eat nearly anything generally considered edible.)

I'll be in Indy in August for GenCon, but that's probably not a good weekend for non-congoers to be downtown.

I am definitely interested in Bloomington. Though finding somewhere that isn't packed on a Saturday evening is tricky. I like Sweet Grass when I actually want to talk to people, or else Irish Lion. Or maybe Indian? Taste of India is pretty good, and I've heard Amol is nice.

I don't have any suggestions for Indy. I like Brasserie Brugge, but it's horrible on Saturdays.

Anything good in Greenwood? I've only been to Oaken Barrel there and thought it was decent.

Sorry I didn't see this post sooner.

Bloomington would be a bit too much of a drive for me, but I'm not sure my health situation is going to allow attendance of any meetup in the near-term, no matter where the destination. I might be able to do an Indy gathering. It will simply be a matter of how I feel on that day.

I'd prefer something on the northern half of Indy, as I'll be coming in from Fort Wayne. If it's in Bloomington I'd spend more time in the car than at the meetup, so that's not gonna happen.

Other than that, I'm good for whatever. I'd prefer something with decent beer on tap, as those are hard to find in this damn town.

Speaking as a non-congoer, that's one of the best weekends to be downtown.

Count me in.

I would absolutely go to a Bloomington meet-up. It would be awesome.

I might go to an Indy meet-up, if the timing works out.

But not necessarily the best time to have a meetup in a bar expecting to be able to find space for everyone to hang out.

Not the best, but far from the worst. There's enough room for GenCon and as many mefites as might be rounded up.

Does anyone have a preference for the type of cuisine/alcohol?
posted by pjern at 8:19 PM on February 24, 2010

Wow, it's March already: Can we discuss venue?

Well, I would prefer Indianapolis unless I can get a ride to Bloomington and back. If we decide on Indianapolis what about Bazbeaux's downtown or Jackamo's in Irvington?

Or if people prefer a bar the Dorman Street Saloon is a bit smoky but they have a good jukebox.
posted by ChrisHartley at 3:23 PM on March 4, 2010

Jockamo Pizza in Irvington! Great idea!
posted by pjern at 5:08 PM on March 4, 2010

Bazbeaux or Jockamo are both excellent choices. Never been to the Dorman Street Saloon, but if it's 21+ we should probably avoid it since we've had U21s show up before and don't want to exclude them.
posted by DevilsAdvocate at 8:28 PM on March 4, 2010

I agree. Lets settle for Jockamo, it's more family-friendly. I'll set it up on the sidebar thingie.

I'm down for Jockamo on the 27th. Can we get a timeframe?

try for 6 pm? I'm pretty open as to time.

6pm is fine for me. I'll be there.

It's still up-in-the-air as to whether I will be healed enough to make it, but it's looking better. Put me down as a "possible".

OK, Thorzdad- hope you can come!

So like I mentioned way up thread I'll bring the $100 from the 10 year anniversary meetup so the first few rounds are on mathowie. If you were at the 10 year meetup but can't be at this meetup and you really want your share, send me a mefi mail and I'll paypal it to you.

It looks like I'll be on a plane to Arizona at that time (visiting family for Passover). Ah well, maybe next time.

Have fun!

Boo! Man, I'm sad I'm going to have to miss this! I went to one in Broad Ripple, where I live a while back and had a great time! But, I'll be in South Bend over the coming weekend....

Have a great time, and I look forward to a coming meet up.

Devil's Advocate, thanks for mentioning U21's! I met you at the last meet up, thank you for not forgetting the youngin's.

Sorry I couldn't make it, gang. Stupid pain kept me down. Looks like a good time was had, though.

Let's try to do these things more often, if possible.

I totally missed this. Anyone want to try a Bloomington Meetup in April?

For those who were asking about it at the meetup, there's now been an announcement regarding a permanent location for the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library. Hooray!
