Front range meetup?

I'll be in Denver from 4-7 to 4-19 and would love to get together.

After the 10th is best, because the AWP convention will be over by then. I also plan to make a few day trips to Boulder and Colorado Springs, but am playing that by ear.

Awesome! We can have another Denver meetup!

I'm in. Who else is up for it? Where should we go? We could try a different place this time, if people like - I've been meaning to get back to Vine Street Pub, which is Mountain Sun's Denver location just around the corner from PS Lounge. The old standbys are always good, too.
posted by koeselitz at 2:33 AM on March 23, 2010

I believe there was discussion about having a meetup to welcome no bueno to our fair city. This would provide a doubly good excuse to get together.

Vine Street Pub would be good. I've been wanting to check out Lost Lake Lounge (new, e. colfax, might be full of hipsters). I know that lfr always advocates for our bus riding brethren (and sistren) so a return to Falling Rock downtown might be easiest).

brujita,

You're not going to write about us, are you? :-)
posted by lukemeister at 7:38 AM on March 23, 2010

Well, as far as bus-riding folks, I have a feeling that if we timed it right it'd actually be easier to meet east-side. At least it always was for me when I've been coming from the North. The DD bus from Boulder drops off at Colorado + Colfax. But I don't know... we should think about nailing a route, though. That's a good point.

If anybody's coming from up there: what works best? Maybe Falling Rock would indeed be preferable, eh?
posted by koeselitz at 7:52 AM on March 23, 2010

I'm in for Falling Rock or Vine Street, assuming I'm not in the mountains. Weekends are a little busier than weekdays though.

Falling Rock downtown _is_ pretty convenient.

I still have photos from the last two meetups that I have not gotten up yet. I am teh looser.

Fridays seem to be quite popular, and they mean that our week-averse and weekend-averse people can meet halfway easily.

So: let's do this! If brujita's in town from April 7 through April 19, we have two Fridays to work with: the 9th and the 16th. Since brujita says after the 10th is best, how about Friday, April 16th at Falling Rock Taphouse? Would that work well for everybody?
posted by koeselitz at 12:38 PM on March 23, 2010

Hi, I'm pretty new on metafilter but I could probably come on the 16th, assuming you people are as nice and good-looking as I've heard.
posted by cirripede at 2:53 PM on March 23, 2010 [2 favorites]

Some of us are even better looking.

I should be able to make the 16th.
posted by craven_morhead at 3:29 PM on March 23, 2010

What an onslaught of meetups. 16th should be ok for me. (Although I can sense a work trip coming along some time in April which is typically most deliberately timed to kybosh any meetup plans.)

I'm easy re. venue but I do remember LFR finding E Colfax a stretch and I kind of miss the Falling Rock.

Falling Rock on the 16th would work just fine for me.

yaaaay! we were just saying we should do another Falling Rock meetup soon-ish!

The 16th may just work out, will have to confirm. At least I know for certain that it's not during one of the 2 ends of April that I'm out of town.

I'm in, hopefully the weather will be much improved by then.

What's all this white stuff on the ground? And wasn't it sunny and warm yesterday?

anyways, I'm probably out (tix for the ballet dontcha know?) but me missing meetups seems to be a trend lately.

I will send out an email to "The List" and tell everyone to watch this thread.

Oddly enough, I'll be at the ballet also. We could have a meetup in the lobby during halftime (unless they call it "the interval").

dr. fresh: I'm going to Ballet Nouveau -- I reckon you are going to Colorado Ballet? If you are also going to BNC we can sneak in 40s and call it a meetup!

lfr: how many ends of April does your April have? AS MANY AS IT TAKES!!!

full disclosure: the mister and I are headed out to LA to hang out with his grandparents for Passover (his grandma makes some mean latkes!) and 4/27-5/5 I'm going to be off getting my ass beat at a bike race in New Mexico, so it seems I may actually be in town for this one.

Especially if it's at the Falling Rock, I mean, I can just stumble there from the bus station :) I will see if I can persuade the elusive mr. lfr to come as well, since he apparently had fun at the SoSun making geeky engineer-talk with the clan. He's still kind of a "Reddit guy", but I've noticed that his ratio of Reddit:Metafilter has begun to swing more towards the blue lately :)

Thanks for pinging The List, fieldtrip. I will be sad if you can't make it, but let's just call it a good excuse to make another meetup sooner than later, eh? We Front Rangers have really not had our fair share over the past six months or so.

No reservation needed. Just someone to sit on the right couches 'til we get there.

UPDATE: oh good, I just thought to check the Rockies' schedule and they will be AWAY on Friday! Thank goodness! We came downtown for the symphony this past Friday and wound up awash in a sea of drunken Opening Day fans :P

as an aside, if you ever need to struggle across downtown in heavy traffic on a weekend evening, I HIGHLY recommend availing yourself of the pedicab / rickshaw service. You'll see 'em all around the 16th Street Mall and the transit hubs. Cheap ($2 a block with a couple bucks tip) and many of the pedicabbers are bike geek friends of mine from the Denver Cruise. Much faster and cheaper within central downtown / LODO than a taxicab.

I'll be there, taking the BX out of Boulder - work schedule will dictate which one tho.
