Bloomington IN meetup?

Anyone in Indiana interested in a Bloomington meetup?

I'd prefer a Sunday, Monday or Wednesday so the SO can come but I already know him. I'd love to meet you. Any suggestions for date, time and place are appreciated. I open the bidding with Sunday April 18th at Cascades. Anybody?

I'm sorry, but Bloomington is 4 hours 21 minutes from Chicago, and 4 hours is really my drive time limit for meetups.

I could go for that, though I'd make a request for a Sunday afternoon due to teaching obligations. Also, for a place with beer (say, Upland, with it's lovely patio and all-ages-ness?).

I'm up for it in principle, though Monday nights are bad for me (until the end of next month) and I'll be busy on Sunday the 18th and 25th.

Johnny Assay, how about the 11th? Would that be too short notice? If that won't work we can try again later. Are you a townie or a student?

Upland's good for me amelioriation. I was thinking late afternoon/early evening. Would 3 be better than 5?

That's almost 4 hours from Fort Wayne, making it a little far for me. Indy is probably as far south as I'm willing to go most of the time.

That'd also be three MeFi meetups in three weeks for yours truly, and while I love you all, damn.

Sorry valkyrin. My car isn't up to a trip to Indy so I'm trying to get something going closer to home. I totally understand if it's too soon after the March meetup but I hope there's enough of us in Bloomington to do something down here soon.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays (though I do have my radio show at midnight), and Fridays are best for me- I have class all day Monday, and again on Thursday. Saturday and Sunday are also usually pretty okay. I'd rather meet up somewhere in-town; Upland sounds okay, though I'd also throw out the Irish Lion or Soma.

I'm pretty sure I'd be free if we wait until Sunday, May 2 (being done with the semester will open up my schedule like whoa) if that works for other folks, rather than trying to push an earlier date (though I could do the 11th if we had a quorum for that date). 3 vs 5 is unlikely to impact my availability -- perhaps it would for folks considering the trek from Indy?

May 2, Upland, 3 or 5p? Should we figure out how many people we expect, maybe increase that by a few to account for people who don't hear about it until later, and then make a reservation?

Beats me PG. Maybe wait until after this weekend to give folks more chance to check in. We can see if anyone has a time preference. I don't know how far in advance we should call for a Sunday afternoon. If you think it would be a good idea to make the reservation ASAP I'll call Monday or Tuesday next week. If it doesn't matter when the reservation is made I'll just wait another week. I guess it would be good to finalize though so Bloomington will go up on the meetup sidebar. What do you guys think?

They don't take reservations, but it's usually not hard to get a spot at that time. I think you should go ahead and sidebar it now, since we're off the front page at this point. Thanks for taking lead on this!

May 2nd sounds fine. I can probably be there.

Don't make reservations until maybe the day before, and only then if there are more than 4-6 people who are confirmed.

Ooh, I just realized that Bloomington's Meet-up for the 10th Anniversary of Geocaching is on May 2nd at 5pm at the Scenic View Restaurant near Lake Monroe. If it's not possible to move the date, I vote for 3pm, or even earlier, so that I can attend both, at least for part of the time.

I'm in the same-ish boat that valkyryn is in. Bloomington's a bit of a trek for me from Muncie. Y'all have a swell time, though. Hopefully, we can get something going in Indy again, soon.

Grarr! I just realized that I'll be in Madison, WI on May 1st and 2nd for a conference. The one time we have a meet-up where I live, and I'm not going to be in town. Now I feel bad for asking people to shift the times around.

And it turns out I was stupid it enough to schedule four other things in Bloomington that weekend as well. It looks like the combined weight of my other obligations now outweighs that of the conference, so I'll be staying here in Bloomington, and I can make the meet-up after all!

So false alarm. I'm still stupid, but you'll all have to deal with me anyway.

I was going to say something about how much I miss Bloomington, but now I'm not so sure. The place hasn't been the same since Tony's anarchist band stopped crashing the 4th of July parade, anyway.

That was a hell of a turnout. We got a dozen even without CitizenD and Pope Guilty. Sorry we missed you two this time. The event went pretty well so maybe we can try again in a month or so. It was great meeting everyone who came. Heretic said she might post some pics later so check back. Special thanks to DevilsAdvocate and ocha-no-mizu for driving farther to meet us than we did to meet them. I hope it was worth it. I know I was glad to meet you both.
