Chrome weirdness : Something about the back button seems to get broken, especially after I post a reply in a thread, where I end up in an endless loop and can't back out of the thread unless I right click and choose something further back in the history. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yeah. It doesn't happen all the time. If you haven't noticed the behavior before... I have the most recent version. I checked my extensions and can't see one that would cause problems.

But it's doing it for me right now. I'm pingponging back and forth between this url...#851054 and this url...#commentpreview.

Let me try.

hmm....it will back me out to the previous page where I entered the comment. Then it gets stuck too. Is that what you are finding?

(another test)

Nope, seems fine for me. Chrome 8.0.552.231, Mac OS X 10.6.6.

I do remember that some Firefox extensions caused very strange side effects that seemed completely unrelated to their intended behavior. What happens if you disable all of them?

Well, that time everything was fine. However, Chrome does come up with intermittent stupidities like this every now and again. I can never figure out a pattern.

Something went odd for me earlier today, but seems to have sorted itself out. Very long hanging, a couple of inaccessible URLs - I assumed that was a server issue rather than a Chrome issue, though.

Are you on Chrome 8,9, or 10? Because they could be different. Also, any extensions?

I'm using Chrome 10.0.628.0 (dev) and I'm not seeing an issue.

still happening.

This happens to me, too. It seems to be pretty random.

It happens to me too with the latest Mac Chrome. I'll post a comment and go back, but it takes me to some page that's severals "backs" back, and forward brings be back to the page I originally backed from. It's hard to tell how often it happens, but not even half the time.

I run chrome on a mac. Can you post the exact steps to replicate? I think you're saying you hit back after a commet and all hell breaks loose, but I'm not totally sure.

huh, I just went back no prob. Using chrome 8.0.552.231 (later than desjardins?)

Ok. I just got here from Recent activity. The url I clicked on is this. I will press Post Comment....
posted by crunchland at 3:42 PM on January 8, 2011

...and now, when I press the back button, I go back and forth between that url I linked up there and this url. No matter how many times I press the back button, I'm stuck in a loop between those two urls, even though I have several other pages, like Recent Activity, in my drop-down history menu.

Whatever it is, it sounds like a bug with Chrome. I can't possibly see how it'd be a MetaFilter coding error of any sort.
