We have an Uptime category because it would be too negative to have a "Downtime" category for the times when the Filter is Down.

But I can't think of a more UP TIME than the B'day of Our Peerless Leader And Master Of The Domain. Have a good one, "howie", and feel free to start lying about your age...

It's more that it's old. Mefi used to have a lot more outages back in the day, with server resource shortages and such meaning the site would just sort of not be around at times, etc. These days it's pretty much some serious service disaster or a major hardware change that causes us to not be up, so it gets a lot less use.

Paging through the uptime category will give you sort of a picture of the difference; it takes a couple clicks to get to 2005 and then another couple clicks to get through 2005.

You could have had a really awesome birthday song if you'd done it at a T.J. McGillifuckles where they have the whole floor staff come out and surround the table and light a chocolate cupcake on fire and do some made-up number that involves stomping and clapping on the off-beats and strained "Hoorays" and the looks of dead souls behind their eyes.
