Unexpected Matt Haughey sighting and Metafilter mention in the "Matter" Kickstarter video (~2:27)

And it looks like they've far exceeded their fundraising goal, so hopefully we'll be seeing some tasty FPP-worthy long-form journalism on the Blue sometime soon.

There isn't a youtube version, is there? I have to be on my tablet at the moment, and it isn't showing up for me.

Aizkolari: Kickstarter link, in case anyone cares.

I've now checked out your link three times to see what the difference is between that and the one in the post. I can't seem to find one.

Well, that's easy. One is:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/readmatter/matter

And the other is:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/readmatter/matter?ref=discover_pop

So, the second one has been Magnituded.

discover_pop pop!

I like this project. technology blogging/reporting/"analysis" is becoming more terrible with every month that passes, with precious few exceptions.

I like this project.

BUT.

Not to propose a false dilemma (he says, while proposing a false dilemma) but shouldn't we support the existing sources of good journalism before setting out to create new ones?

Honestly, at this point I think of my NYT subscription as a form of charity. I really wish it was tax deductible. The only reason why I haven't unsubscribed is because deep down I have this feeling that these guys needs the money. It's an emotional and irrational thing, I know.

So, yeah, support the creation of Matter, but please consider also subscribing to the NYT or The New Yorker or other existing sources for quality journalism.

Wow I guess I thought the top link went straight to video? Except that it clearly does not. My bad.

I initially misread this as "Unexpected Matt Haughey sighing" and I was all like "What, o what can it be about this Kickstarter project that causes our Great Leader to void his lungs in melancholic wise?"

Since it's still being funded this feels like a weird post that's maybe skirting the "no ongoing kickstarter" rules.

Oops, sorry, I wasn't even aware of that rule. For what it's worth I didn't post it with the intention of getting it more money (I didn't donate myself). I just thought it was cool that Matt and Metafilter were in it and thought others would too.

As long as we're pimping kickstarter, I would like to talk about the funding the kickstarter to try and buy kickstarter.

I wonder if I had an in-person-Matt-sighting. Christmas Eve at a great empanada restaurant. Best empanadas in Portland!

Either that, or it was someone that looked a lot like Matt. :-) I don't really know him (you), so I didn't say "hi". Probably looked over enough - trying to figure out if it *was* you - that I made whoever it was uncomfortable. Ooops!

Holy crap, yep, that was me! Every year we buy a few dozen tamales from the Canby Aspargus Farm and then throw a big party at our house.
