Login issues on the iPad July 9, 2012 6:05 PM   Subscribe

When I use MeFi on my iPad (a first year model, non-3G variety), and do anything from search to post a comment, I am prompted to retype my login credentials, even though I am already logged in. This started about a month ago. This doesn't happen on any other devices. Help?

This happens to me as well but with other sites, not just Mefi.

Have you tried clearing your cookies? Are your cookies set to 'Always' accept in Safari settings?

When this happened to me it was because I had somehow set Safari to not accept cookies. Vexing but easily fixed.

I think it's your cookies. I seem to remember the same issue a while ago on my first generation WiFi only iPad.

Yum, cookies.

Yeah, we found that after major iOS updates (like going from 4.x to 5.x) for some reason Safari defaults to not accept cookies. Pop into your Safari settings and fix that, and you'll be good.

Well, cookies should work for iOS users who set from visited, which is how safari is configured by default (desktop and iOS versions).

Clearing cookies and logging in should work, but reccomending users to set cookies to always shouldn't be the go to fix.

It it possible that you Safari set to private browsing? My iPhone does similar stuff if I forget to turn that off.

Sounds like you've been scrolling up illegal cinemas. Better consult your psychist.

(Oh my god I've been waiting to do that for so long!)

I just came to make snarky comments about Apple products. I'm going to go back to not watching TV - BECAUSE I DON"T HAVE ONE!

At least I'm not an anteater.

Better an anteater than an anteatee.

Thanks for the advice and quotations, guys. I've cleared the cookies, and will see if that does the trick (after I reset my login, as I can never remember it).

Better an anteater than a mangy old baboon named Daisy!

Don't forget to makes sure your Safari settings are correct. You can find that by clicking the 'Settings' icon on your home screen, scrolling down to Safari, and then making sure the 'Accept Cookies' setting is 'Always' or 'From visited'.

It couldn't hurt to make sure Private Browsing is set to Off while you're in there.

Woah! HUGE slam on anteaters out of nowhere!

Yeah, we should probably just add the whole formicidae/myrmecophagidae thing to the list of Things Metafilter Doesn't Do Well.
