IRL alerts still buggy? July 11, 2012 5:06 PM   Subscribe

IRL alerts still buggy? I proposed a Los Angeles meetup earlier today, and just received a MeMail from a fellow L.A. Mefite to tell me that he didn't receive the usual IRL notification.

I'm not following up in this thread because it seems like there may be a separate issue from what we discussed there as the possible culprit (i.e., accidentally setting the location at first for Hollywood, FL, rather than Hollywood, CA).

Is there a ghost in the (meetup) machine? Or is it (bizarrely enough) just L.A.? FWIW, I did receive the auto-confirmation after I posted it.

IRL alerts go out at midnight Pacific time on the day they're posted. So the alert will go out tonight.

The lag time gives the OP time to edit things if necessary.

AHA! I am going to shake my finger fondly in the general direction of the Mefite who had me confused!

(Also, I am now hollering at this thread, in my best Gordon Ramsey voice, "SHUT IT DOWN, YOU DONKEY!")

heh, no problem, no need to shut it down or shake fingers. We're talking about ways to make the IRL alert system more clear.

PAUL, IF YOU'RE NOT SHAKING FINGERS, YOU'RE THE PRODUCT BEING SOLD

That's ok. I'm used to being product all my life. SAIT.

Have you tried adjusting the opacity slider?

It all depends which timeline you set as your home location. Let me tell you, Rasputin throws a hell of a party.

So nice to be mentioned in the meetup proposal. :)

Well I did take a picture of him at the urinal and have had it turned into a cardboard standee. I'll bring it with.

Not really. I merely laminated the photo and carry it in my wallet. Urinating Warren is my laminated boyfriend.

Okay, now I'm thinking about the many multiverse versions of MetaFilter. The one where Miguel became an admin is pretty weird. (But then, so is the one where cortex became an admin.)

Wait, did I miss a meetup with Jessamyn at Jumbo's?

Wait, did I miss a meetup with Jessamyn at Jumbo's?

Yeah it was like a zillion years ago, when HighTechUnderpants was in town.

It is true that all of us gets IRL email notifications at midnight but scody gets to hear it in person from Paul Weller?

The guy from Robocop?

It's true! pb has set it up so that once a Los Angeles meetup is confirmed, a messenger in a jaunty cap is dispatched to Weller's home to inform him in person (His Modness, like Her Highness, Does Not Do email). He then calls me up to give me the news, sings a few bars of a random choon, and recites a few lines from Robocop. Oh, how we laugh!

Hmm. Wasn't Scody the name of Paul Weller's partner in the first flick?!

No? Well, it should have been.

See, that's where you've gone tragically awry. You may never be able to regain what has been lost by this one terrible error.

Should have been Gordon Pinsent.
