Sidebar for Meetups November 5, 2003 4:57 PM Subscribe
Matt. Way to go on the sidebar entries for upcoming MeFi meetups. It's great to know that the editorial stance of Metafilter isn't just about the good ole' U.S. of A., but also includes all those tiny little countries you may have read about in National Geographic.

Well, maybe if there hadn't been meetups in Vegas and Boston, you wouldn't have been mentioned either.
Grrrr.

I'm busy, and thought the metatalk thread gave you more exposure than a sidebar link ever could.

Wow, I hope you returned those old beads and trinkets.
[I kid, I'm a sucker for a straight line]

mathowie: While we still had a lot of people turning up to the event, I think that you overestimate how many people actually visit MetaTalk. It might be busy in here, but it's all the same old usual suspects, so a link on the sidebar has far, far greater exposure than even multiple threads on MetaTalk. I remember that there were several people who commented that they didn't even know there was a UK meetup after the event, even with the multiple threads!
So, while I'm sure you don't have anything against the UK in particular, it would be nice if the next UK meetup (whenever that may be) got a sidebar link just like the US meetups.

Not until I hear a Thank You for bailing you guys out of WWII. :)
Seriously, I'm busy with other things and lazy with this site, I didn't think that many people read the sidebar much anymore since the google ads are there, and I just didn't ever get around to it. It was one of those things that takes five minutes out of your day to do and I kept accidentally putting it off until it was too late. I'll try to do better next time, to be honest the only reason I said anything about the North American ones was because I was going to one. I've neglected to mention others, not just the UK one (I should have mentioned the vegas one weeks ago, to help people build up and think about attending).

That was you? I thought it was John Wayne.
But thanks anyway for capturing the Enigma Machine for us. That was fantastic. :-)

I think we should thank the Japanese for that.
