I changed the waiting period for new memberships getting front page posting rights to one week. It used to be 24 hours. I updated the about page to reflect this as well.

a11an, you have to show the Metafilter cabal (there is no Metafilter cabal) that you've cultivated the required cool, ironic detachment needed to enter the brutal contest of wit and savoir-faire that is Metafilter. Then, after a grueling mental and physical examination, you go through a secret initiation ceremony in which all communication must be done in perfectly-formed haiku. After that, if your haiku is judged worthy and you take the extra-secret anti-Bush oath, you're given the super-secret password and you're ready to go. I recommend starting by posting some simple links to the New York Times, Salon and Slashdot, or simply linking to your own weblog. Have fun! :)
