Yeah, I bought it too.. couldn't resist Matt's not-so-smiling face on the cover.

the NPR article in that magazine was good too (not online though).

I took this shot, Matt's issue lined up on the newsstand at Penn Station in NYC. I never found it in bulk at any newsstands near Times Square itself, unfortunately. That would have made for a cooler photo.

That issue of Brill's Content had a number of excellent pieces in it. The magazine seems to have changed course somewhat since I last saw it. Very tempting to subscribe.

Indeed. It doesn't seem like it's quite as meta as it used to be. However, having been burned by wasting my money on a subscription back when it first started (it laid around unread because it was so damn boring), I'm going to look at another issue first...

They just fired a bunch of staff, including some good people. Then he bought Inside, which was going to merge with it to be Inside Content. Then he wisely ditched that plan. Now they're scaling it back to a quarterly.
Frankly, I'm a charter subscriber, and I had about ten more issues -- so I'm kinda happy: even 10x/yr is too much meta for me. And now my subscription will last into '03. ;-)
I have just enough background in journalism (college paper, some thought to a career) that it's quite interesting to me. I'm not sure that translates for the general reader, though. Most of the big stories they cover are looked at in a meta sense long before they appear in its pages, and the insider stuff sometimes does turn on personalities and has the air of a palace exposé. They touch on internet issues somewhat, but not very effectively.
So I enjoy it, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to most people.

I liked it more when it was "inside journalism", than the more general stuff...

It has just arrived in my little backwater of the UK (London), and then they go and make it available for free? Anyway I wonder if they got a circulation boost from frustrated cake backing MeFi'ers buying multiple copies of Matt? :-]
If so maybe they should have him as coverboy every month, standing with his TV in a different celebrity location. Matt goes to the beach, or Matt feeds the pigeons in Trafalger Square for e.g.
What about this motif as the cover art (if there is such as thing for MetaFocus?
Anyway enough of that Tomfoolery, night, night.
