Can I have his mefi number? April 23, 2004 8:34 PM   Subscribe

User 666 has posted no comments or links to Metafilter. Can I have his mefi number?

Gotta respect the going for it. To derail, ever so slightly, is there a point where, if a user hasn't even logged in for a certain amount of time (even if we're up around two years), they get deleted?

If not, shouldn't there be?

You think 666 isn't a real member? Oh, he's real, alright. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

If Matt ever unwisely allows users to trade up their numbers, I would insist on trading my already-envied 206 for Number Six.

But then again, I am not a number, I am a free man!!! (kind of.)

Seriously though, what would April be without a pointless metatalk thread by Keyser Soze? More enjoyable, that's what!

I'm just messin' with ya: this thread was important.

Mathowie: No.

Keyser Soze: Damn.

I have 6666. Which is like, one 6 better than 666. I'm still not giving it away, though...

Just because somebody doesn't post doesn't mean their account is inactive. I'm sure there are people who signed up just for the prefs and customization. (There are lots of places I have an account where I just lurk, or have posted only once or twice.)

Requiring that people post to keep their memberships in good standing is a good way to tip the balance towards the noise rather than the signal.

There's nothing but a poltergeist and some dust bunnies inhabiting user# 986 now. Let me have that one and I'll gave the place a much-needed sweepout and disinfecting.

Well, this is why I was saying a user who hasn't logged in in a certain (long) amount of time should perhaps be removed.

The guide dog foundation. It isn't about the blind people, it's about the puppies.

I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

Thread dissolution. Symptoms: comments become shorter and less focussed, eventually becoming seemingly random word salads that must be carefully interpreted.
