The noisier fan was the last straw. I need a new enclosure.

I've got a 120GB external firewire hard drive (EZQuest Cobra) and the fan has started making a loud noise. Thing is, the fan was pretty loud to begin with so I'm thinking maybe I should just replace the entire enclosure with a top of the line super quiet one. Suggestions?

Whe I asked this somewhat similar question, I got a number of recommendations for LaCie drives (although I ended up buying a SimpleTech USB drive - which hasn't arrived yet, so I can't comment on it).

I just bought a LaCie BigDisk 320GB (based mostly on recommendations in that other thread.) It's reasonably quiet, though not silent; it also turns itself off automatically when not in use, which is a big improvement over my old drive that just ran the fan continuously.

The bad news is that it arrived only partly assembled, and the only way I could get all the pieces together involved both duct tape and removing the "you will void your warranty if you remove this sticker" sticker. So, eh. Probably just a fluke, but worth keeping in mind.
