Philly meetup! March 20, 2005 8:56 PM   Subscribe

I'm curious - having had such a good time at a DC meetup; I was wondering if there was interest in a Philadelphia Meetup?

West si-eeede!

Now all you Philly foo's have to come out and represent, yo.

Note: The last time I did this impression in front of people, I pulled a William Hung. It was that awful.

If there's one, I might even be convinced to drive out from Baltimore for it. Any MeFites have some floor space for a meetup junkie?

Yes, interest in a Philly meetup.

So I guess that filmgeek didn't leave us too early.

Works for me. Now for when and where...

Hows about April Fool's?

amberglow, I’m down too...but do you think we could get a carpool going from NJ/NYC? Any brave/generous soul willing to drive a few fools to Philly from either NYC or NJ?

I'm interested.
Those of you in NYC could take the train. It's not too expensive, though I guess it would be better if you could pool resources.
If someone really has trouble getting in from so. Jersey, I'd be happy to go grab them.... I like driving :)

You know what we should do--go down early to Atlantic City for the afternoon, then on to Philly.

(or do you philly folks not want us cramping your style?)
posted by amberglow at 5:52 PM on March 21, 2005

we don't have any style, as a new yorker you should know that.

Vesuvio, psh. Parking isn't fantastic around there.

my knowledge of city bars is not what it should be, but...
Ten Stone (which I think is at around 20th and South) is pretty decent, and relatively chill.
I guess it depends on how many people there are?
I've also heard good things about Royal Tavern (10th and Passyunk), but I've never been there myself.

Bob and Barbara's?

Ten Stone sounds good.

But when? How about the 9th of April? Any takers?
posted by Mercaptan at 1:11 PM on March 23, 2005

Uhg. The 9th of April is basically the only day I can't do. :(

Ten Stone (21st and South) hosts Drinking Liberally every Tuesday from 6-9. Just FYI, cause I'm too introverted to actually show up.

An ideal day to me would be a Sunday afternoon or wednesday night - avoiding the fri/sat crowd.

Then we get to where....

I'm thinking Standard Tap - it's in Northern liberties (easier parking than smack downtown, but yet, accessible). They have food and good beer.

Now for the lurkers here; I'm going to say, I'm an absolute cynic about these things, and yet, the DC one I went to was one of the better times with total strangers I've ever had.

I can deal with Standard Tap.

But if it ends up that we do a happy hour on a weekday you should know that Drinkers on 2nd and market has 3 dollar pitchers.

I like the "not Saturday night" concept - Sunday afternoon is fine with me, as is Standard Tap. Not this Sunday, of course. Anyone up for the 10th?
posted by soyjoy at 9:39 AM on March 24, 2005

10th works for me. How about early evening/late afternoon, like at around 5 pm? Standard Tap open up at 4 pm.
posted by Mercaptan at 10:10 AM on March 24, 2005

Ok, so:

Sunday April 10th. Standard Tap 5pm

The time makes is good if any Mefites want to come down from NY, DC, Harrisburg or Atlantic City.

Standard Tap
North 2nd Street
Philadelphia, PA

Google Maps

Last thing...someone want to act as the organizer?
Filmgeek is bad at that sort of stuff

heh. yeah, I was wondering what was going on here.

what did you mean post to the front page?
posted by frufry at 10:57 AM on March 29, 2005

i've had limited internet access, and i was kind of waiting for a date to be set so i could say for sure yes or no, but i'm definitely down for april 10th @ 5pm. hopefully i won't be the only one to show up?
posted by zorrine at 8:33 AM on March 30, 2005

Nope. totally on.

Shit, I'm going to have to be the contact person. will post in a moment.
