Does San Diego do meetups? (MI)

As I'm leaving for Europe in two weeks and probably not returning, I thought it might be pleasant to meet a few mefites from around here. Would anyone like to suggest where and when? (sorry about posting to bugs!)

Does San Diego do meetups?

Not well. The one meetup we did have a year and a half ago had 4 people, two of whom were a couple (thus counting as one entity), me, and user #1. Now, if pretty much nobody came out to meet Matt, how successful do you think you're going to be? Hmm? Hmmmmm?

In my dreamworld, we'd meet at the Casbah.

Yeah, I'm only here for a couple more weeks too, but look at the zip code thing- somehow there's only 46 people from the san diego area on MeFi. What's that all about?

Yeah, San Diego is strangely quiet, isn't it? I would have thought it would be a little more lively in terms of presence, but then I'm also surprised that New Orleans doesn't have more of a core group, or Atlanta, among a number of U.S. entities, and a lot of European/Asian important cities.

OK LionIndex and BuddhaInaBucket when and where can I buy you a beer? or whatever. I would prefer to give the Casbah a miss - fond as I am/ was of dingy little nightspots. However as this seems to be wired city I'm sure we can think of somewhere maybe in 92103.

Yeah, but quite a few of those accounts were pretty much stillborn, or have been abandoned like Stevie Best Dente's or (apparently) y6y6y6. It does seem odd that the 7th largest (?) city in the US would have such a small, inactive contingent, but that may just be a SoCal thing. LA meetups don't happen too often, either--the last one was triggered by a bunch of people being in from out of town.

I wasn't serious about the Casbah--I don't think anyone would want to pay a cover for a meetup or anything. Anyway, I'm in Mission Hills, so anywhere around there or centre city/downtown/Little Italy is OK with me. 92103 is basically Hillcrest, right? Offhand, within walking distance for me are Shakespeare's, the Aero Club, Gelato Vero (coffee bar), and anyplace in Old Town. But pretty much anything near a trolley line is good. If we end up doing anything, it seems like you guys are the ones with serious time constraints.
