cannot connect to jrun server June 23, 2005 9:10 AM   Subscribe

I've been unable to view any part of Meta for the past four and a half hours today because of a "cannot connect to jrun server" error. Whilst this doesn't normally bother me (it is quite a frequent occurance) I find that most of the time other people are still able to continue posting during this 'outage'. So how come it is completely broken for me but not for everyone else?

It's because we don't like you.

If anyone tries to sell me a JRun server later in life I'm gonna know what to say. They need to get over here and mop up this adverse publicity with some free t shirts and caps.

When quonsar has deemed you unworthy and has doled out a jrun unto you, let you flee to MetaChat.

free t shirts and caps

I'd much rather have a shiny new Apache beany.

the mefi wiki is now on the first google page for "jrun error".

my impression/guess is that somehow matt's improved the restart procedure, so it's still going down (lots), but then comes back up really quickly. so if you get an error, wait 30secs and reload.

I'm still trying to get to the bottom of the java engine errors. I deployed the new ask mefi front page, tweaked the metatalk page, and I have a new metafilter front page ready for testing. I might just deploy it today and see where the errors happen.

That would be nice since I am beginning a two-month travel leg of my two-year world tour tomorrow and my internet access will again be quite limited.

Matt, thanks so much for working on this. I know you have a ton of other, way more important (and cuter) things to deal with right now, and I'm sure that fixing MeFi is time consuming, frustrating, and boring. Thank you so much for working on it for all of us.
