a bit too farky?

a bit to farky? A one link page to a single "strange news" story is fark's bread and butter, and they posted this a couple hours ago. I realize that metafilter is a better place to talk about this sort of thing, but what is there to say? I doubt there Anyone here that thinks people should be arrested "for their protection" for being drunk at private parties?

I think the post was poorly written because the issue isn't so much the guy's right to get drunk and much more so the cops illegally arresting him on a bullshit charge because he was pissing them off.

I was informed by a member who gave up months ago that the rules do not change on Fridays. Which was a lame thing to do as I think I'd posted the elastic butt girl flash dealie that has only been recently bested by the ragdoll bikini lady who keeps getting FPP'ed.

Am I supposed to defend myself or something? I read it in the San Francisco Chronicle, for what it's worth. I'll admit it's a bit of a weak link . . . but I wouldn't know what gets on Fark as I don't visit there. It's interesting to me as I'm awfully concerned about law enforcement's heavy hand lately here in the States--surely I can't be the only one.

Delmoi, feel free to skip it if it's not up to your standards. Oh wait, I see you participated in the thread almost immediately. Well then, feel free to be an ass.

That sort of crap happens all the time. It's not really "news" in my mind.

The reason I posted the MeTa thread was because I didn't want to complain in the thread, since I'd been complaning about other people doing that, which happens all the time.

Lead by example, and whatnot.

There's no damn guideline that says we can't post a Fark-worthy link, and I've always resented the view that we should all make some effort to be as unlike that site as possible. It's just about as annoying as insisting that nothing from BoingBoing ever be posted here because anyone who's everyone already reads it.

"This isn't Fark."

Obviously. Look at the URL. But that's where the comparison should end. If you have a substantive problem with a link, flag it. Being-like-Fark isn't a substantive problem.

Intresting I don't read boingboing. Found it dull. I do read fark, and I've seen lots of people commenting recently that this or that seem like 'fark' type material. This one struck me as being extremly so, so I figured I'd mention it here.

I'd just encourage you to say what it is that bothers you about the post. Too peurile? Too alcohol-related? Too sexist? Too newsy? Too llllame? Whatever it is that you consider Fark to be, please frame your complaint using those specific adjectives. I think at that point the worthwile complaints rise above the worthless ones. If something is newsy and sexist, it may very well not fly here. If it's related to alcohol and is peurile...wtf: live with it.

No one is saying there should be. Sometimes people are comfortable with them... a "high-quality" farkish post, for instance. Low-quality farkish posts usually don't do well here.

Is there a rule that says we have to use those adjectives? What's wrong with Farkish? It doesn't matter if not everyone is familiar with Fark to know what farkish means. I'm not familiar with peurile (or puerile, in fact). The word is meaningless to me. Perhaps I'm not as smart as people who use it. I looked it up though, and found that I would probably use juvenile instead. I'm more comfortable with that word. Can I use that one instead?

C'mon scarabic. You know exactly what it means when someone labels an FPP farkish or fark-like. Stop pretending that you don't or that it's not a good enough reason to call something out (and I'm not necessarily defending the call-out or that I agree with his/her reasons). In fact, you've been doing this fairly often lately... popping into MeTa threads and pretending you don't get it or taking some kind of pointless devil's advocate point of view. This one comes to mind.

Farkish covers all of the words you would use to describe the type of thing Fark likes to link to... ok? It works the same way as if I said something was too Christmasy or Fox-Newsy. If you don't know what farkish means, sorry. Ignore this little debate and find something else for now.
